I can’t explain why, but this week has lasted SO long… Does anyone else feel like Monday was a month ago? My mom and I keep joking that we have absolutely no sense of time here. Along with the usual things keeping me busy—work, blogging, hanging out with the fam—I spent some time this week preparing for an exciting blog collaboration I’ll be doing in September, as well as a soon-to-be-published interview for a Colorado-based website. I can’t wait for either!

I know I made a big deal in last week’s recap about getting up at 4 am to go into the office this week, but I never ended up going that early! Instead, I slept in a little this morning and went to my grandpa’s office around 8 am to get some work done for my research assistant position. My mom and I ran some errands in the afternoon, and I spent the evening taking blog pics and swimming in my grandpa’s pool. Nothing like a twilight dip to finish the day.

I had a slow start this morning as I finished my book on the back patio. My mom and I made a trip to our favorite thrift store, and I scored a $5 wicker purse for my summer outfits! I think I was just mentioning in Monday’s post (yes, the one where I said I wouldn’t shop anymore) that one of the things I still needed was a straw/wicker purse. I’m so glad I found this one for such a steal. In the afternoon, my dad and I motored over to my aunt’s house to spend time with my cousin and her adorable new baby! He’s a year old now—so not that new—but because of the pandemic, this has been the first time I’ve gotten to meet him. We had a blast, and he started to warm up to us by the time we left.

If I had my own pool, I would never get anything done or ever get dressed. I’d just wake up in the morning and slip into a bathing suit! That’s pretty much what I did for most of this week. I spent the morning finishing my magazine-inspired blog post before eating lunch with the family and playing Euchre. I lounged by the pool all afternoon and tried (but failed) to catch some sun!

I spent the morning working and in a Zoom meeting before running outside and hopping in the pool the first chance I got. My mom’s cousin brought over this amazing peacock floaty, which we have named Pablo, so now all I do is lay on him and attempt to get a tan. I bought this striped bikini from Target a few months ago, and I absolutely love it—there’s still a few in stock!

My dad created the hot new recipe of the summer this morning—and we have deemed it an ‘avaloupe salad’. The ingredients are chunks of avocado, chunks of cantaloupe, lime juice, and salt. Sound weird? It was, but it was also pretty yummy, almost like a mango chutney sort of dish. Anyway, you gotta try it—an avaloupe salad. Coming soon to a restaurant near you.

We spent the morning by the pool before my mom and I went to another favorite secondhand store of mine, Alt Rebel. They always have so many cute pieces! I could do some serious damage on my wallet there. Afterwards, we ran to the grocery store—again—before making a delish pork chop dinner and heading over to my uncle’s house for wine (he’s a bit of a wine snob—I hope to make him proud after taking my Wines of the World elective this fall).

We enjoyed a big breakfast this morning before my mom and I went to a few more thrift stores and were largely unsuccessful. I am planning on doing a ‘Best Secondhand Stores in Las Vegas’ post soon, so stay tuned! We went for a drive to see the Hoover Dam in the afternoon, and I just threw on the same dress as yesterday. On our way back, we stopped at this hidden park to see a bunch of big horned sheep, up close and personal! Some of them were really in ~the mood~ and I was a little nervous we might witness something R-rated in the park. Thankfully, they were able to contain themselves, and it was really exciting to see so many at such a close distance.

. . . . .

We’re just having a lazy Sunday today, and I’m very seriously considering taking a nap on Pablo in the pool. But is that a recipe for a sunburn? Probably. As always, thanks for stopping by the blog today, and I hope you have a great rest of your Sunday.
