I spent this week trying to tackle my long “adulting” to-do list—onboarding for my new job, apartment hunting, car registration in a new state, etc. With all the stuff I want to get done before I start work, I keep forgetting that this is kind of the last summer vacation I’ll get for the foreseeable future! So my dad and I tried to squeeze in a little fun, too. I haven’t quite gotten into a summer outfit groove yet, since my clothes and shoes are in boxes all over the place, but I had a few cute outfits here and there. I also noticed that while I do not own a lot of purple, I think I wore most of my purple items at some point this week. What can I say, I’ve been loving lavender lately!

I had a lazy morning with the fam playing Euchre and Trouble before sending off my aunt’s family and starting my dog sitting duties. I hung out with a friend in the afternoon and then guest played for my cousin’s soccer team, scoring the winning goal!! It was so exciting; I can’t remember the last time I scored. As far as today’s outfit goes, I really did not like this combination. I threw on this belt because it was the only one I could find in the disaster of suitcases that is currently my bedroom, but something about the belt and frayed shorts together gave me major farm girl vibes.

I took the sweet pup for a walk this morning and then went on a very frustrating apartment tour. I fell in love with the place only to find out half of what they claimed to offer on their website wasn’t actually available, ugh. I marched over to another apartment I’ve been keeping my eye on and decided to spend the afternoon applying there, instead. Fingers crossed it works out!

I’ve worn this outfit a couple of times now and love the springy vibes of the pastel colors. I’m also really loving the length of my hair right now—it’s grown a few inches since I cut it in January, and I think the lob is a really fun length for summer (although the layers are driving me nuts whenever I try to braid it or throw it in a bun).

Lavender Top: Francesca’s, $15 ($2.14 per wear), last worn here | Mom Jeans: Express, $40 ($1.67 per wear), last worn here | White Espadrilles: DSW, $45 ($1.22 per wear), last worn here

My thrifted farmer belt was much better suited for this dress than Monday’s shorts. I didn’t get a whole ton done today, but I reminded myself that I should have a little fun during my last bit of summer vacation… so my dad and I decided to go bowling! I’ve also decided I’m going to buy myself my own pair of cheap bowling shoes—since my feet haven’t grown in years, the shoes will surely pay for themselves over the next few decades instead of having to rent a pair for $5+ every time.

Scarlet Dress: JCPenney, $28 ($1.40 per wear), last worn here | Beige Anorak Jacket: JCPenney, $30 ($0.51 per wear), last worn here | Brown Sandals: DSW, $19 ($0.24 per wear), last worn here | Brown Belt: Thrifted, $3 ($1.00 per wear), last worn here

I took the pup for a walk, crossed a few items off my to-do list, and then headed off to my friend’s apartment to spend the afternoon lounging by his pool. We grabbed dinner and then watched the lightning from his balcony—I absolutely love summer thunderstorms!

As for today’s outfit, I threw it together for this month’s Thrifty Six collaboration. I had a vision in my head and wasn’t sure if it would come together as I imagined… but I ended up feeling really cute in this look! I love the top for summer nights out.

I had such a productive day today—I did a drive-by of where I’ll be working to scope out the building and parking situation, I got my photo taken and picked up my employee badge (it’s official!), and I grabbed my ecopass for Denver’s public transit system. My dad and I visited my grandma in the afternoon, and I stopped by the library to pick up a library card (my wallet is bursting with all these new cards now). My dad and I also tried the “healthy Coke” trend that’s been circulating social media—where you put balsamic vinegar into sparkling water and it’s supposed to taste like Coke. The verdict? It does not taste like Coke. At first I didn’t think it was that bad, but by the time I finished my glass, the drink was pretty off-putting.

Beige and Black Jumpsuit: Francesca’s, $16 ($1.07 per wear), last worn here | Brown Sandals: DSW, $19 ($0.24 per wear), last worn here

My dad and I woke up early and drove to Eldorado Canyon State Park to do a hike, seen in the first pic of today’s post. It was absolutely beautiful and the perfect temperature! After dinner in the evening, we drove to a nearby neighborhood to enjoy a free outdoor concert. The singers were great and we had a lot of fun chitchatting.

I decided to wear this thin floral tee that I’ve had since middle school, but without a cute belt to go with it, I didn’t want to fully tuck it into my pants (and I couldn’t make the half-tuck look cute, either). I decided to knot it—which seemed like the perfect solution—until I went to take my OOTD photo. It took several tries to make the pic look cute, and I’ve learned over the years that if it’s difficult to photograph an outfit in a flattering way, then the outfit probably isn’t very flattering in real life, either. So I guess I can cross this look off my list, even though I still like it in theory.

Floral Top: Nordstrom Rack, $20 ($0.80 per wear), last worn here | Mom Jeans: Express, $40 ($1.54 per wear), last worn here | White Espadrilles: DSW, $45 ($1.18 per wear), last worn here

I started Father’s Day by attempting to make pancakes for my dad, which turned into a disaster because the gluten-free pancake mix I bought stuck like glue to the griddle (we enjoyed our pancake mush nonetheless). I told my dad I had surprise plans for us in the afternoon, but he said he didn’t want to know them until we arrived at our destination. He had lots of guesses, but when I drove us to the nearest light-rail station, he was very confused… It wasn’t until we hopped on the light-rail to Union Station—and the train was packed with people in Rockies jerseys—that he realized we were going to the Rockies baseball game in downtown Denver. We spent all afternoon there and had such a great time enjoying the ballpark snacks! I made us my grandma’s chile relleno casserole for dinner, and then we finished the night with a movie.

My mom and I did a little shopping before I left Boise and this lavender bodysuit was all I got during our spree. I chose to wear it today to keep my shoulders out of the sun, since I knew we’d be at the game all afternoon, but then I remembered the Rockies team color is purple—so I fit right in with the crowd! I also thought jean shorts would be a cute baseball vibe—and to be fair, tons of girls were wearing them—but I don’t think I’d recommend them for a game. I nearly singed my thighs off when we sat down on our hot chairs.

Lavender Bodysuit: Macy’s, $10 ($10 per wear) | Denim Shorts: Target, $18 ($1.64 per wear), last worn here | White Espadrilles: DSW, $45 ($1.15 per wear), last worn here | Sunglasses: Charming Charlie, $10 ($0.59 per wear), last worn here

. . . . .

I hope you had a great week! Thanks for stopping by the blog, and let me know which outfit was your favorite in the comments below.

Miles of smiles,

    1. Yes, so true! I don’t really wear a ton of shorts anyway, but a longer skirt/dress definitely seems like the move for that reason.
