Weekly Recap #18, 2023

Han Solo costume, Princess Leia costume, Luke Skywalker costume

This photo popped up as a memory on my phone on May 4th (Star Wars Day—May the Fourth Be with You) and I couldn’t help but re-share it here on the blog. During lockdown in 2020, my parents and I brainstormed a list of fun things to do around the house every day in the month of May, and dressing up as Hans Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Princess Leia was one of those activities. We spent quite a while searching our house for creative items to use in our costumes! I am wearing a bed sheet, my dad’s light saber is a squirt gun, my mom’s weapon is a vacuum hose, and my dad’s leg covers are Ace bandage wraps. What a time.

Monday, May 1

As I mentioned in my April recap, I just changed my work schedule, and this was the first week where I worked from home on Monday and Friday. The Sunday Scaries weren’t nearly as bad when I knew I didn’t have to go anywhere on Monday morning! I threw on this bright dress for a beautiful 70 degree day, and my boyfriend and I decided to grab a quick lunch together at a nearby pho restaurant.

I wasn’t feeling great today, so my first instinct was to reach for all black. I threw on a magenta headband for a little pop of color and love how it pairs with my teal mock-neck top—the jewel tones look so good together.

The weather was very springy this week! I still wasn’t feeling fantastic so I reached for subdued colors again, even though I was drawn to bright, colorful pieces to match the sunny skies.

We had a taco bar for lunch in the office today, so everyone brought in a different taco ingredient to share. It was so much fun! We don’t have the kind of office culture where people eat lunch together, so it’s always nice when we do share a meal.

Grey Tee: JCPenney, $6 ($0.13 per wear), last worn here | Black Denim Jacket: Topshop via Nordstrom, $55 ($2.04 per wear), last worn here | Striped Skirt: Cabi, $90 ($6.43 per wear), last worn here | Black Sandals: Dillard’s, $30 ($0.46 per wear), last worn here

This outfit gives suburban mom vibes but I kind of love it. The jacket is thrifted Ann Taylor and has fun flute sleeves—not a piece I reach for often but I think it’s a cute statement for a work outfit. I paired it with a red top and my red Rothy’s (which are so comfy—definitely worth the hype). I thought my cropped flared jeans added a nice symmetry to go with the sleeves.

Red Top: JCPenney, $18 ($0.50 per wear), last worn here | Jacket: Thrifted, $16 ($4.00 per wear) | Cropped Flared Jeans: Express, $25 ($25.00 per wear), last worn here | Red Flats: Rothy’s, $100 ($16.67 per wear)

Another work-from-home day, and then my boyfriend, one of his friends, and I went out to Mexican food and Top Golf. I’ve been hearing about Top Golf for years now but this was the first time I finally went! I enjoyed it, although it made me want to go to a real driving range really badly.

I love this going out look with my thrifted red crop top and ripped straight leg jeans—made me feel very trendy.

Derby Day!! I spent the morning getting ready and then Ubered downtown with my aunt to the Denver Mini Derby, which I discussed in this post. It was so much fun to watch the Corgi race, the mini horse race, and the real Kentucky Derby on the big screen. I was really torn on what outfit to wear (options here), but I ultimately decided on this thrifted fuchsia dress because I thought it would pair nicely with my aunt’s adorable green ensemble. My boyfriend said we look like Cosmo and Wanda from “The Fairly OddParents”, ha! I’ll be sharing a full recap blog post of the event later this week.

After the Derby, I somehow rallied and my boyfriend and I went out to sing karaoke, something we talked about doing together on our first date more than a year and a half ago but had still never done. We went to Park Center Lounge and really enjoyed it (I changed into the same outfit as yesterday). We sang “Winner Takes It All” by ABBA—as an homage to Chuck McGill—and absolutely crushed it, if I do say so myself.

Fuchsia Dress: Thrifted, $15 ($5.00 per wear), last worn here | Nude Heels: Amazon, $46 ($4.60 per wear), last worn here | Beige Patent Purse: Thrifted, $9 ($0.90 per wear), last worn here | Beige Fascinator: Thrifted, $3

. . . . .

Sunday, May 7

I slept in late after such a busy day yesterday and spent the whole afternoon cleaning my apartment—nothing exciting and no cute outfit to show for it.

. . . . .

How was your weekend? Did you do anything fun? It was a busy week of fake holidays and events, if you include Star Wars Day, Cinco de Mayo, and the Derby—lots of fun to be had. Let me know which outfit is your favorite, and have a great Monday!

Miles of smiles,

Grace

  2. Lol, I absolutely get what you mean by “suburban mom vibes” but I also really like that outfit.

  3. Wednesday and Thursdays outfits are so cute! And I love the throwback to that May 4th! I am so ready for summer to be here and schedules to be more relaxed… But it is getting hot so I am going to have to figure out what to wear to not stick to the car! I am thinking dresses might be the best choice for most of summer for me!

    1. Ooh that is the worst feeling, when you have to peel your thighs off the car seat! I am also looking forward to summer, even if it’s the first time I don’t get a break, haha.
