Unlike in today’s sunny cover photo (which is of the creek right near my office building!), it was a 60-something, stormy day here in Denver, a nice respite from the heat wave of the past week. I love summer thunderstorms, and as much as I’ve been enjoying summer, the chill in the air today gave me the slightest bit of excitement for fall. This week’s big update is that I finally started living in my apartment. If you missed the last few recaps, it’s been a slow moving-in process over the past month, but I got all my furniture moved in last weekend and finally got internet installed this week, the final step before migrating from my aunt’s place to my own apartment. Exciting stuff! I’m still in the process of organizing and decorating everything, but it’s slowly coming together.

A lot of my coworkers work remotely part of the week, and hardly anyone goes into the office on Mondays. The only other two people who do were on vacation this week, so I decided to save the gas money and just work from home today (and by home, I mean my aunt’s house). After work, I went over to my boyfriend’s place to catch up, as he had spent the prior week on a business trip. Didn’t snap a pic of today’s dress, so I’m just borrowing a photo from earlier in the summer, since I’ve been wearing this outfit on repeat.

I worked from my aunt’s house today so I could swing by my apartment in the afternoon for an appointment with the internet guy, since the cables in my place weren’t working. Thankfully, he was able to quickly get the Wi-Fi up and running. I had dinner and one last Mario Party session at my aunt’s place before moving all my stuff outta there and spending my first night in my own apartment. Woohoo! I just wore the same dress as yesterday since I didn’t really go anywhere.

I went into the office today, and after work, I drove across town to a little boutique I follow on Instagram that was having a going-out-of-business sale. I had been seeing posts about the sale for a week or so and finally made it over there, and while there was less to choose from, the discounts were even greater than they would have been had I gone sooner. I ended up with a fun dress and a bedazzled headband for 80% off. I rushed back to my apartment to meet a friend of my aunt’s, who was kind enough to give me an old desk he didn’t want anymore. Then the BF came over to help hang some decorations and grab dinner! It was a busy night.

This is my first official OOTD photo in my new apartment, and I’m not sure how I feel about it. It’s always a struggle to find decent lighting indoors. I had been looking forward to buying a larger, flat mirror to lean against the wall, instead of the over-the-door one I’ve used for years, but my grandma happened to have this oblong one in her storage unit. It’s teeny for my OOTD photos, but it seems silly to buy a different mirror right now when I have this perfectly functional one. I’ll have to keep noodling on it—do let me know what you think of this week’s photos.

As for the outfit, I’m not sure how I feel about that, either. I’ve never paired this navy top with the skirt before, and I still can’t decide if the polka dot collar clashes with the pattern of the skirt.

It was a bit of a slow day at work today, but there was freakishly little traffic on the drive home—a pleasant surprise. I stopped by my aunt’s place on the way to pick up the rest of my stuff and then spent the evening unpacking/organizing.

I’ve worn this navy patterned top with these pants before (I love how the pants bring out the little orange feathers in the top), but I hate how big the pants are. The scrunching of fabric in the crotch is never a good look… I’ve tried purposefully shrinking these pants in the dryer before but no luck yet. If you have any tips, please let me know!

I worked from home again today and then went to my boyfriend’s place for dinner, followed by a game night with his friends. I think this romper is super cute, but since the top-half is a wrap style, it always gapes open… to the point where I’m stressed about flashing everybody the whole night. I want to add a stitch or two, but I’m not sure yet if that would make it impossible to get in and out of the garment. I’ll get back to you on that one.

Today was a blast! Some of my aunt’s friends host a yard party every year with a giant blow-up water slide, so I spent a few hours in the afternoon hanging out with my aunt and the neighborhood families. In the evening, I went on a triple date up to Black Hawk. Black Hawk is a town about an hour outside of Denver that has a bunch of casinos—sort of like a mini-Vegas. I had never been before, nor have I ever really gambled, so it was a lil’ bit intimidating. Thankfully, I practiced some Blackjack on the drive there and managed to learn most of the odds and rules for when to hit versus when to stand. Unfortunately, I didn’t make any money, but I only lost $6, which I’ll take for my first time.

I was going to wear this saucy Jet Noire top but realized last-minute that my high-waisted jeans were dirty. Instead, I opted to wear the hot pink, leopard dress I purchased on Wednesday! It’s definitely out of my comfort zone, but I thought it looked super cute with my bedazzled purse, black heels, and crimped hair. Not sure my boyfriend agreed—when I showed him the dress on Wednesday he said it looks like something a 70s porn star would wear. Thoughts? I couldn’t help but laugh. Porn star or not, turns out I was way overdressed for Black Hawk, but hey, at least I felt cute. Too bad the lighting in the casinos was terrible! I’ll have to photograph this look at some point for a proper blog post.

Sunday, July 24

My boyfriend and I got brunch this morning (I didn’t care to wear anything cute), and then we wasted away the afternoon watching our show, enjoying the thunderstorm and pitter-patter of the rain outside. I can’t say it was a particularly productive day, but the weather was too perfect not to cozy up on the couch and be lazy.

. . . . .

Thanks for stopping by today! Let me know what you think of this week’s mirror photos and what you think of the “porn star” dress, lol. Hope you have a great start to the new week.

Miles of smiles,
Grace

  1. OMG, I love all of your looks Grace. And no way do you look like a porn star. It’s such a fabulous dress.
The navy with that skirt is wonderful…I think it’s a winner for sure.
And I have the same issue with my mirror, so I tell Google to take a selfie (do you have a ring light??) Even if you don’t, I bet you can find a place to stand your phone and then take a selfie (you could use the timer. Or if you have an Android, say “Hey Google. Take a selfie”.
BTW, I’m linking to your skirt as a top post tomorrow from my email. I hope you get some traffic from it because I think of you every time I use that trick.

    1. Thanks so much Jodie!! I don’t have a ring light… I’ve been toying with getting one for so long, maybe it’s time to finally bite the bullet. I tried your suggestion with my tripod for yesterday’s OOTD. Still not sure the lighting was great but I’ll keep testing and see what a full post looks like in that format. Thanks for the suggestion!

  2. It’s a big step to move into a home of your own. I like your post in diary format. 🙂 And, your looks are very pretty, simple and elegant! A hug from Portugal, Raquel
