Just like that, the first week of winter quarter is over! Getting back into the groove of school is always difficult, but it’s been fun figuring out a new routine and catching up with friends. Aside from some wind, the weather here has been sunny and gorgeous, which always helps brighten the mood!

Monday, January 11

I only have one class, Remote Sensing, on Mondays from 10-11am, so I spent the morning before that finishing today’s blog post. Afterwards, my dad (who took me back to school) and I drove out to the Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, Colorado, for a hike and some fresh air. We spent the night watching one of our favorite movies, and I attended a virtual murder mystery event hosted by the school, which turned out to be really fun.

I also tried a new hairstyle today! I shared a similar look in this blog post last year, but I never thought to do a pigtails version of it (and I only just learned that this style is called bubble braids). I love how they turned out!

Tuesday, January 12

My schedule is pretty stacked this quarter, so I have three classes (5.5 hours-worth) on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I said goodbye to my dad bright and early this morning and then “went” to my online Sociological Classics class at 8am, followed by my Climate Change and Society class at noon and my Cartography class at 2pm. When the day was finally over, I hung out with my boyfriend for the first time in two months, and we toured the school’s new community commons building, which is super swanky! Afterwards, we exchanged Christmas presents and participated in a virtual scavenger hunt.

I thought I would try pairing grey and beige today for a neutral look, but I didn’t end up loving this combination.

Since I only had one hour-long class online today, I spent most of the day doing schoolwork and trying to get organized for the new quarter—printing syllabi, labeling my accordion folder, etc. My assignment for my Cartography class was to draw a map of the university just by memory, which was super fun! I also spent a bulk of the day writing essays for a scholarship to which I’m applying.

Thursday, January 14

Another busy day of school! I spent the break between my 8am and noon classes publishing today’s blog post, and when my Cartography lecture ended a little early at 3pm, I worked more on my scholarship essays for the rest of the afternoon. Later, I went to my boyfriend’s for dinner and we watched “The Crown” on Netflix.

I thought I’d try layering this pink sweater underneath my olive green utility jacket (with a cute brooch on the pocket), but I think the sweater and jacket together makes the outfit too bulky.

I had an online lab session at 10am for my Remote Sensing class, and I made some really delicious chocolate funfetti cupcakes afterwards. As the cakes were cooling, I finally finished and submitted my scholarship application—feels so good! My friend and I had dinner together and she straightened my hair for the first time ever. My hair is relatively straight naturally, but it felt *so* nice and smooth to be straightened with a flatiron!

And yes, this is the exact same outfit I wore Thursday, just with different accessories… No shame here.

What have you been up to this week?? It feels nice to have somewhat of a social life again now that I’m back on campus, even if it’s just online and involves wearing masks. Something is better than nothing! As always, thanks for stopping by today, and I hope you all enjoy your long weekend.

Miles of smiles,

Grace
