Spanish Travels: Day Trip to Montserrat

While road-tripping across Spain with my family this summer (a wild time, by the way—keep reading to find out more), we decided to take a half-day trip to Montserrat in Catalonia. A little more than an hour outside of Barcelona, Montserrat is a mountain range—literally meaning “serrated mountain”—that is rich with religious history and incredible views. Nestled in between these pillar-like rocks is a monastery and basilica, with the latter housing the famous 12th century Black Madonna statue, the patron saint of Catalonia. Spanish Travels: Muxia and Finisterre

After my brother and I finished walking El Camino de Santiago, the rest of our family met us in Spain for a road trip across the country—first stop, Muxia and Finisterre! While the traditional end of the Camino is in Santiago, many pilgrims choose to continue walking an extra three days to either Muxia or Finisterre to see the ocean (and the mile marker that says 0 kilometers left!). Can you believe that a lot of schools are already starting either today or sometime this week?! Where did the summer go??? Luckily for me, I don’t start classes again until September 9…but whew, it sure is weird to see all my friends returning to their campuses all over the country.
