I was doing so well keeping up with my new year’s posting schedule until this week, when I had to be a little MIA because… I bought a car!!! I mentioned a few weeks ago that my biggest goal for March was to purchase a car before the month was through, and I’m so proud of myself for actually getting it done. It was a lot of work and kind of all-consuming this past week, but now I can rest (and drive) easy knowing I have a reliable and swanky new ride!

Monday, March 18

I had a busy day crossing items off my to-do list (and watching lots of car negotiation videos) and was thankfully even able to squeeze in a walk in the afternoon—it was just too gorgeous not to get outside! I was so excited to break out one of my more summery skirts for the first time this season, but I think this striped Cabi one might be close to retirement… It took a lot of work to get it over my booty, ha!

With all the car-related to-dos it’s been really difficult to focus on anything else this week. And with the sunshine… I feel like my motivation always dips a bit this time of year because I just want to be outside. This outfit is a completely new combo for me, and while I’m glad I tried it, I wouldn’t reach for it again. There’s no denying that this thrifted jacket, with its cute flute sleeves, looks better with jeans on the bottom—I think the dress with it is just too much volume. But I scored lots of compliments on my London-themed shoes!

Scarlet Dress: JCPenney, $28 ($1.22 per wear), last worn here | Khaki Jacket: Thrifted Ann Taylor, $16 ($3.20 per wear) | London Shoes: UIN Footwear, $95 ($23.75 per wear), last worn here, buy here

Wednesday, March 20

I love how cute and springy this outfit turned out. I wasn’t prepared to wear sandals yet (i.e. my toenails weren’t painted) so I opted for these orange flats instead, which I think were a fun pop of color. Aside from work, we went to our usual Wednesday night trivia and unfortunately did not do too hot this week.

This is one of those outfits I’ve had planned in my head for weeks, and I’m so glad it turned out just as cute on. I thought the chartreuse sweater paired with the leather skirt would be so chic! I didn’t have particular shoes in mind and had lots of options that would have been stylish, but I opted for these black booties with leopard backs for maximum comfort. (The leopard was the perfect print to throw into the mix.) Other shoe options included my snakeskin faux Valentinos and my oxblood Mary Janes. Next time I think I’d pair the look with a longer pearl necklace to take up a little more space visually.

Sweater: Banana Republic, $45 ($15 per wear) | Black Leather Skirt: Scout and Molly’s Boutique, $105 ($6.18 per wear), last worn here | Leopard Booties: Crown Vintage via DSW, $35 ($1.59 per wear), last worn here

Friday, March 22

For a casual work-from-home Friday I just threw on this new ribbed pink tee from Old Navy and my favorite cropped flared jeans. A very simple spring look, made complete with an anorak jacket later in the day when the temps cooled down. My boyfriend and I went to a friend’s place tonight for karaoke—his basement is all decked out with a machine and lights, so it’s the perfect place to practice new material before taking it to the stage!

Pink Tee: Old Navy, $8 ($8 per wear), buy here | Anorak Jacket: JCPenney, $30 ($0.42 per wear), last worn here | Cropped Flared Jeans: Express, $40 ($0.59 per wear), last worn here | Quilted Sneakers: Steve Madden via DSW, $60 ($0.43 per wear), last worn here

Saturday, March 23

Car buying day!! I started my morning by cleaning my current car, a 2007 Toyota Camry named Betty, and taking her to CarMax to get a quote. In the afternoon, I met up with my aunt to go to the dealership to purchase my brand new Subaru! We were there the whole afternoon, but I was able to drive off the lot in my new car, with only eight miles on the odometer. I was sooo nervous to go to the dealership, but it was the best feeling walking out of there with the purchase finally complete!

It’s been looming over me since June of last year when I first learned Betty needed repairs that cost more than she’s worth… So yes, I know I’ve been procrastinating big time, but I can’t describe how good it feels to finally have that weight off my shoulders. I still have a few remaining tasks (some additional loan paperwork, insurance, selling Betty, etc.) but by the end of next week I should have it all sorted. I’m on Cloud 9!!!

Striped Tee: Down East, $18 (0.49 per wear), last worn here | Anorak Jacket: JCPenney, $30 ($0.42 per wear), last worn here | Cropped Flared Jeans: Express, $40 ($0.58 per wear), last worn here | Quilted Sneakers: Steve Madden via DSW, $60 ($0.43 per wear), last worn here

Saturday, March 23, Cont.

To celebrate, my boyfriend and I went out to dinner at our favorite sushi place. I threw on this fun Starry Night dress that I thrifted and painted myself for my Halloween costume two years ago. This was only the second time I’ve worn it (I was worried it would seem too costume-y), but I think it made for a fun and funky date night look. The blue flats really complete it!

Starry Night Dress: Handmade, $43 ($21.50 per wear), last worn here | Blue Flats: DSW, $5 ($0.16 per wear), last worn here

Sunday, March 24

Now that the hard and all-consuming work of buying a car is done, I have a ton to catch up on—so that’s what I spent today doing. I also snapped some pics with my old car Betty before saying goodbye. Even though I’m a sentimental person, I was not expecting to feel this emotional about saying goodbye to my first car! But I suppose a lot of memories have happened in there, from driving to prom to packing up my dorm room during Covid, and I am really going to miss her.

As for today’s outfit, I think it turned out super cute—been breaking in all my new Old Navy purchases this week.

Pink Sweater: Old Navy, $19 ($19 per wear), buy here | Ripped Straight Leg Jeans: Express, $15 ($0.47 per wear), last worn here | Chelsea Booties: Portland Leather, $95 (15.83 per wear), last worn here, buy here

. . . . .

Which of this week’s springy outfits is your favorite? We had such amazing weather most of the week, to the point where I stopped bringing a coat when I left the house, but now it’s snowing again, after being in the 50s earlier today… That’s Colorado for ya.

Miles of smiles,

Grace

  1. Congrats on the new car! Despite all the car issues, this is a really inspiring week of outfits. Wednesday is my favorite and of course your Starry Night dress. I can’t believe you painted it yourself.
