What to Wear When You “Just Can’t”

We all have those days where we don’t want to get dressed… Whether you’re feeling sick, it’s your time of the month, or it’s just any old Monday, finding the motivation to get out of bed and put effort into an outfit can be tough work. To use the vernacular of “kids these days,” sometimes you “just can’t.” On this chilly winter Monday, while I’m sitting on the couch wishing I was napping instead, I figured it’s the perfect opportunity to share some of my tips for still looking presentable, even when we least want to get dressed. Who’s with me this Monday? Who wants to be comfy as possible without looking like a slob? Don’t worry, I know you guys are silently nodding yes.

Layer a hoodie under a jean jacket.

Whenever I’m in a mood, my favorite thing to wear is a big sweater or sweatshirt, naturally. While a sweater can be cute on its own, sweatshirts give off a more casual vibe that make it a little more obvious you weren’t interested in getting up this morning. To combat the slob look, I love to layer a jean jacket over my sweatshirt (whether it be crewneck, hooded, etc.). The structure of a jean jacket is a simple but effective way to make your outfit look more put together, and you still get all the benefits of a cozy sweatshirt underneath! Be sure to pull out your hood if you have one so it drapes over the jean jacket—gives you an effortless 90s grunge style that makes you look cool on purpose (whoot whoot).

Style your favorite black leggings.

I’m gonna be honest with you guys: I am very against wearing leggings as pants. This is my only pair, they’re running tights, and I only ever wear them for actual running. BUT I realize that I’m going to lose this battle almost every time with females in my age group, so for this blog post, I caved. I wore leggings for a day (!). To make them look the most presentable, I recommend wearing a simple black pair. They’re the most likely to pass as real pants (rather than burgundy leggings, for example) and they can cover up a lot when you inevitably spill something throughout the day (who else gets clumsy when they’re tired/sick?). I also decided to cuff my leggings, just to add a lil’ somethin’ somethin’ and to cover up the athletic logo. Little details like that can go a long way in pulling an outfit together!

Throw on a hair accessory.

My last tip, and probably the most substantial for turning your lazy day outfit into something presentable, is to throw on a cute hair accessory. That doesn’t mean you have to do your hair in anything fancier than a messy bun (or even brush your hair, if you feel so bold), but a little pop of color on your head makes it look like you put it in at least a little bit of effort. I recommend a soft headband like mine, a fun scrunchie, or one of those cute scarf ponytails. Again, tiny touches go a long way!

What do you like to wear when you feel like you “just can’t”? Are you all about comfort, do you still put in the effort for a nice outfit, or do you dress somewhere in between, like my look today? I’d love to know your thoughts in the comments below!
