I saw one of my favorite influencers, Styled By McKenz, share her favorite 23 outfits from 2023, and I loved the recap so much I was inspired to do one myself. I should have been doing a post like this since I started documenting my daily outfits back in 2020… Perhaps today will be the start of a new tradition. My selected outfits are limited to my weekly recap mirror pics, for consistency’s sake, but this dress I wore in Vegas was also one of my favorites from 2023. So, without further ado, here are my favorite looks from the year, in the order that I wore them.

ONE

2023 was the year I let go of my fears of being an imposter and fully embraced my inner cowgirl (you’ll see what I mean with some of the later outfits). My sister-in-law got me these Ariat boots for Christmas last year and I couldn’t wait to start styling them when 2023 started. I love the color combo of brown, olive green, and coral, and I wore the cutest headband to match!

TWO

While I love this sweater, I get bored of it because I tend to style it with the same two pairs of pants over and over again. I had never considered pairing it with this black leather skirt and am obsessed with how the look came together. Complete with matching burgundy socks, of course.

THREE

I used to never wear this black and white cardigan but ended up styling it a lot in 2023. I love it with a simple black crop top and cropped flared jeans for a trendy yet effortless weekend look.

FOUR

I wore this outfit to a local boutique fashion show with my aunt! It’s more suited for fall than February when I wore it, but I absolutely love the olive green bodysuit paired with the embroidered suede skirt. The rich brown booties and coral lipstick complete the look.

FIVE

How freaking cute is this work outfit?!! This is up there in my top three outfits of 2023, maybe even a contender in my favorite outfits of all time. I love the chicness of the monochrome blouse and skirt combo. This is one of my favorite tops, with the lace and old-fashioned buttons down the back, and it paired so perfectly with my thrifted tweed skirt that I rarely reach for.

SIX

I wore this outfit to a horror-themed cocktail event in the middle of April. I’ve had this blouse for years and never reach for it, but I love how it came together in this outfit. It was the perfect spooky vibe for a random springtime Halloween event.

SEVEN

I still can’t get over how much I love this outfit. The pastel yellow blouse and shoes match perfectly, and the white cardigan pairs with the polka dot trousers for the cutest spring look. It would be great for work, church, as a guest at somebody’s graduation, or even for Easter.

EIGHT

This outfit made it to the blog in a real blog post. The striped midi skirt was a hand-me-down from my aunt, and while it’s too big in the waist, I made it work with a vintage navy belt from my grandma. I was worried the mid-calf length would make me look short, but the nude sandal heels were the perfect solution to elongate my legs.

NINE

Not all of my favorite outfits are fancy or over-the-top. This crop top and shorts look is a new combo I discovered over the summer and have worn countless times since. Simple and comfy for a lazy day around the house, but cute enough to wear out if need be.

TEN

This is one of my favorite dresses. My parents thrifted it for me during move-in week my senior year of college—they know my style so well! I wore this on date night and paired it with black accessories this go around instead of the orange and nude pieces I’ve worn in the past.

ELEVEN

A first for me in 2023: overalls. I wore this outfit to the Midsummer Festival in Estes Park, and it was the perfect look for wandering around, cute yet comfy enough to move and sit wherever I wanted. If I were to buy shorts overalls again I would definitely get a longer and looser pair, but I still think these are really fun for a summer day.

TWELVE

I’m not sure why I never thought to pair this floral ruffle blouse with my hot pink blazer before, but it’s a match made in heaven. Complete with cropped flared jeans and white studded mules, this outfit proves that workwear doesn’t have to be boring.

THIRTEEN

Such a cute outfit for the summer time. I remember several people in the grocery store complimenting this look. I mean, it’s hard to go wrong with navy and white, especially when polka dots and stripes are involved (the heels of my shoes are striped!).

black-beaded-crochet-tank-denim-shorts-black-sandals-frida-kahlo-inspired

FOURTEEN

I finally found an excuse to wear this crocheted beaded top that was a hand-me-down from my second cousin. I styled it with milk-maid braids for a Frida Kahlo-inspired look, but it would be just as cute with jeans and hair down for a casual outfit.

maroon-tie-front-blouse-banana-republic-pinstripe-skirt-thrifted-mary-jane-shoes

FIFTEEN

You know how I love my boss lady work outfits. This tie-front blouse and pinstripe pencil skirt are no exception… I feel like I definitely need a corner office in this look!

white-blouse-navy-pants-indian-white-espadrilles

SIXTEEN

My friend brought these pants back from India for me and I absolutely love them. They feel like pajamas but are socially acceptable! I dressed them down in this look with espadrille sandals, but they would be just as cute with a beaded clutch and heels for a summer night out.

blue-white-gingham-strapless-dress-thrifted-yellow-heels

SEVENTEEN

Without a doubt, this is my favorite outfit from 2023. I found this dress for $13 in a thrift store over the summer and went back and forth about whether I should buy it, telling myself that I didn’t need another dress, it barely fit in the bust, yadi yadi yada. Well, I’m SO glad I convinced myself otherwise because this is one of the cutest dresses I’ve ever owned. And with the yellow heels! So darling for the summertime.

black-white-stripe-cowl-blouse-grey-blazer-purple-pants-dotted-kate-spade-handbag-black-heels

EIGHTEEN

Coming in with another fabulous work outfit—I feel like a CEO wearing this. There’s a lot going on between the purple pants, the striped cowl, and the heather grey/leather blazer, but somehow it all works together seamlessly. This outfit looks like something Stacy and Clinton from “What Not to Wear” would style.

pinstripe-polka-dot-button-down-black-leather-skirt-stud-snakeskin-heels-work-outfit-edgy-style

NINETEEN

I’ve had all these pieces in my closet for years but never thought to pair them together. The faux Valentino Rockstuds are my favorite shoes of all time, even though I rarely wear them, and the polka dot pinstriped blouse is so unique. Something about the crimped hair really completes this edgy work ensemble for me.

argyle-collared-sweater-denim-skirt-cowgirl-boots-pumpkin-patch-outfit

TWENTY

Yee-haw! I wore this outfit to the pumpkin patch and while yes, it was very impractical, I was by far the cutest one there. I would totally wear this line dancing if the skirt didn’t ride up with every step.

beige-turtleneck-sweater-fall-outfit-black-leather-pants-clara-sunwoo-cream-booties-trendy

TWENTY-ONE

This sweater and leather pants combo was sent to me by Clara Sunwoo for a collab and it might be my favorite outfit I’ve been sent. It feels so trendy but also so me, and I love it paired with my cream booties from Portland Leather.

maroon-mockneck-top-patterned-pants-flared-jeans-cavenders-ariat-cowgirl-boots

TWENTY-TWO

Hello!!! How incredible are these pants?! Hence my cowgirl era of 2023. I did wear this look line dancing and absolutely rocked the dancefloor. I mean, how could you not in blue and maroon patterned bell bottoms… I wore these pants again on my birthday and just love them.

grey-ribbed-crop-top-cardigan-grey-straight-leg-jeans-furry-sneakers

TWENTY-THREE

Including something a little more whimsical as my final favorite outfit. I love how this monochrome grey ensemble came together, and even though the thrifted furry sneakers are kind of ridiculous, they were too fun to pass up!

. . . . .

Which of my top 23 looks is your favorite? I’m such a sentimental person that looking at these outfits makes me think about what I was doing and feeling while wearing them. Just one of the many reasons I love clothes—putting on your favorite dress is like trying on a memory. I hope your 2023 was full of great outfits and even better memories!

Miles of smiles,

Grace
