Blazing Into Spring

Once a quarter, I team up with seven other bloggers across the generations to show that you can’t put an age on style. We landed on “Blazing Into Spring” for this quarter’s theme, but both blazers and straight leg jeans were discussed as possible options. I decided to pair them together!

If you read last week’s weekly recap, you know I wore this outfit (with slightly less tall booties) downtown last Sunday to get brunch with some girlfriends and attend a bridal show. I already had the idea in mind to wear the pink blazer and straight leg jeans together because of the Magnificent 8 theme, but I wasn’t sure what to choose for the rest of the outfit.

I ended up layering the blazer over this puffy sleeve, black crop top that I purchased my last day studying abroad in Scotland. I had to fly home a month early for my brother’s wedding, and my sister-in-law’s bachelorette party was just two days after I arrived back in the States. All the bridesmaids were supposed to wear black going-out tops, something I didn’t have! I was scrambling around downtown Glasgow after a very early morning Covid test (which was still required to get back into the U.S. at that time), and after trying on tons of black tops at various stores, I stumbled across this $15 number in H&M. I bought it purely out of desperation, given that the event was in a few days, but I’m SO glad I did! I wear it all the time now, and it’s the first thing I reach for when going out.

As for the hot pink blazer, I’ve had it for several years but hardly wear it. It’s one of the only pink items in my closet, in fact! I love how it looks with the black though—almost a color-blocked moment. I accessorized with black dangly earrings, striped sunglasses, snakeskin booties (thrifted in Scotland), and everybody’s favorite tea kettle purse. Ladies from several of the bridal show booths stopped me to tell me how much they loved my bag! I wasn’t sure if the cutesiness of the purse would clash with the edginess of my booties, but I think they ended up working together since both are black and white.

Lastly, I finished the look with hot pink lipstick—the shade “Sweetener” by Becca Cosmetics. I’ve been reaching for this color so much lately. It paired beautifully with lots of my tropical outfits in Puerto Rico, and I wore it on Easter as well (in this Barbie outfit). Unfortunately, they don’t make this color anymore, but I do really like the brand’s lipstick—goes on smoothly and doesn’t dry your lips at all.

I’ve been reaching for blazers more and more for work the last several weeks but decided to style a blazer for fun today instead. Be sure to check out the other bloggers of the Magnificent 8 to see how they’re styling blazers this spring!

Let me introduce the other seven ladies of The Magnificent 8.
