It was my turn to pick a theme for this month’s Thrifty Six collaboration, and it seemed only natural to do New Year’s Eve outfits! (I picked holiday red as last year’s December theme.) While I knew right away that I wanted to come up with a glitzy thrifted look to ring in the new year, I didn’t have a specific outfit in mind when I declared the theme. When the theme ‘velvet’ was announced for this month’s Thrifty Six collaboration, I knew right away I wanted to style this blue, fish-like dress. I don’t wear velvet very often, let alone secondhand velvet. But I quickly remembered I brought this blue dress to school this quarter—with the highly unlikely hope that I would have a reason to wear it—and the velvet leopard print overlay fit the theme perfectly.
