What to Wear in Nashville in the Winter

Today I’m sharing 11 outfit ideas for a trip to Nashville! My boyfriend and I spent a week in Music City in early December, and these are all the outfits I packed in my carry-on suitcase—yes, all 11 looks fit into one bag. I didn’t buy any pieces for the trip and tried to come up with country western-inspired outfits straight from the items already in my closet. There’s lots of denim, neutrals, and even a little bit of fringe. Be sure to check out my What We Did in Nashville post first so you have a better understanding of where you can wear these looks!

My boyfriend and I both worked remotely while in Nashville, and unfortunately I had to work late a lot of the nights I was there… so I didn’t end up wearing as many of these outfits as I had hoped. Regardless, I still think they’re all super cute and really fit the vibe of the city! It was very rainy while we were there but in the 30s and 40s, hence why I could get away with bare legs. You’ll also notice I’m not wearing any hats or cowgirl boots… For one, I didn’t have my Ariat boots in early December, as they were a Christmas gift. But more importantly, I knew I didn’t want to look too touristy or dress like I was wearing a costume… Overall, I think these outfits are a good mix of country vibes without being too over-the-top. First up is this off-white sweater dress with rich brown boots and a matching purse. I ended up wearing this outfit in my hotel room while working, but I think it would be a really cute brunch look in one of Nashville’s fun neighborhoods, like 12^th Ave S.

 
This is a good casual outfit for sight-seeing—although you might have to wear slightly lower boots. Mine are quite tall! I wore this outfit to grab dinner with a friend in the Germantown neighborhood. The patterned sleeves on this top seemed like a fun touch for Nashville, and you can’t go wrong with cropped flared jeans… especially ones with a raw hem, so trendy.

 
Va-va-voom! This is the outfit I wore to see the Grand Ole Opry at Opry House. The website said the venue is more on the casual side, so I didn’t want to go too over-the-top… This statement top from Jet Noire paired with my go-to brown purse and booties was the perfect combo for the event.

 
This is the travel outfit I wore when leaving Nashville—still on-theme with distressed straight leg denim but also comfy and warm enough for the chilly plane. Wearing this outfit (boots, jacket, jeans) instead of packing it saves a lot of space, which is part of how I was able to squeeze so much into my carry-on suitcase!

 
I didn’t end up wearing this ‘fit in Nashville but think it would have been really cute for getting drinks and listening to music on Broadway. I did, however, wear this outfit in Las Vegas during Thanksgiving and loved it!

 
Another outfit I love but didn’t get a chance to wear… My boyfriend and I were originally planning on going to a jazz bar on Music Row in one of the evenings but had to cancel because of work. I think this would have been a stylish winter look for drinks, though.

 
This is a casual yet stylish outfit for a day of sightseeing. It would look really cute photographed in front of the Nashville Parthenon. I absolutely love this striped button sweater from DR2 by Daniel Rainn, and it looks really trendy paired with these straight leg jeans. Sadly skinny jeans are out… but with heeled booties I think straight leg jeans can still be flattering.

 
One more va-va-voom outfit for going out! Originally I had planned to wear this denim bodycon dress to the Grand Ole Opry, but I’m glad I opted for the white lace-up top instead—I think this dress would have been too fancy for the venue. It would be so stylish for drinks on Broadway, though.

 
This was a comfy and casual outfit I wore sightseeing on one of the rainy days. We went to the Musicians Hall of Fame, wandered some old southern estates, and grabbed dinner downtown.

 
I didn’t wear this outfit either but think it’s a fun daytime look for leisurely listening to live music in any number of Nashville’s bars. This black purse is the one bit of fringe that I own, and I thought it was the perfect amount for Nash, without being too tacky…

 
Finally, this is the outfit I wore line dancing on Broadway. I always recommend pants for dancing so that you can kick your legs out to your heart’s content, without fear of flashing someone. I threw my maroon moto jacket over top but quickly took it off once I got moving.

Which of these Nashville outfits is your favorite? It was a fun challenge to try and create western-inspired looks with pieces already in my closet, and I think I nailed the Nash vibes. Sure, I didn’t wear cowgirl boots or a hat, but the lack of those items helped me look a little less try-hard—I saw a few girls who wore full fringe, boots, and hats, and while they looked super cute, they also looked like they just walked out of a costume store. These are all outfits I would wear in Nashville but also wear here in Denver.
