construction-themed-birthday-cake-legos-cake-decorating

What a fun week! It definitely feels like the type of weekend where I need another weekend to recover, though. I flew to Las Vegas after work on Tuesday to surprise my grandpa and celebrate his 90th birthday (!!!). My grandparents used to surprise me with a visit on my birthday when I was in grade school, so I figured it was about time I return the favor. I’m so grateful I have the flexibility to work from home and could make this trip happen—he was so surprised, and it was so much fun to see all my cousins and celebrate my amazing grandpa! This is the cake I decorated for him, since he owns a construction company. I enjoyed decorating it way too much.

It was another busy week at work, but I started it off right with this super cute business casual outfit. No doubt, the pink blazer is a statement, though I think it’s quite chic paired with black and white and my dark wash denim. After work, I had two soccer games and ended up grabbing drinks and food with the team. It was super enjoyable and a great way to finish the season.

I left work a little earlier today so I could finish packing and head to the airport! My flight left a little late, but I made it to Las Vegas around 8:30 pm. My parents picked me up, and we snuck into my grandpa’s office to dress it up with 90-themed decorations.

For the most part I liked this outfit, but I usually pair it with black sandals, which I had already packed in my suitcase. I decided to try my pom pom sneakers instead and I’m not sure how I feel about them—they seem like too much with the skirt? The shapes are wrong? I don’t know… What do you think?

Maroon Mock-Neck Top: JCPenney, $11 ($0.30 per wear), last worn here | Black Denim Jacket: Topshop via Nordstrom, $55 ($2.39 per wear), last worn here | Striped Skirt: Cabi, $90 ($6.92 per wear), last worn here | Grey Pom Pom Sneakers: Thrifted, $20 ($10.00 per wear), last worn here

I woke up at 4 am to go into the office with my grandpa, and he was so surprised to see me! Today was his actual birthday, and I’m so glad I got to be there to celebrate. I worked from his office and then helped decorate his cake in the afternoon. Later in the day, a handful of my cousins, aunts, and uncles came over to my grandpa’s house for a birthday dinner.

I’ve never paired this baby blue bodysuit with these fun pants, but I loved the combo! I finally ordered a new sticky bra from Amazon since my favorite one from Target has been either out of stock or not deliverable… Unfortunately, the one from Amazon pales in comparison.

Blue Bodysuit: Wayf via Nordstrom, $55 ($11.00 per wear), last worn here | Floral Pants: Francesca’s, $15 ($1.88 per wear), last worn here | White Espadrille Sandals: DSW, $45 ($0.74 per wear), last worn here

Just another day of work-from-home at my grandpa’s office. My dad and I did a little afternoon hot-tubbing, and my uncles took me to get my first-ever custard at Freddy’s—I expected it to be more different from ice cream than it really was. Still yummy, though.

I spent the day trying to problem solve something at work and then went to my favorite thrift store with my mom, looking for a black dress for my Halloween costume this year (hopefully it turns out and I can do a post on it!). In the evening, we picked up one of my brothers from the airport and then stayed up much later than I wanted waiting for my other brother and his wife to arrive. Some of us decided to stay up even later and play our favorite card game, Euchre, into the wee hours of the morning!

Saturday, October 1

Now that my whole family had arrived, we had a big breakfast at my grandpa’s house, and then a handful of us lounged by the pool with mimosas—80+ degrees on October 1st! In the evening, we went to my aunt’s house for a bigger birthday party, with more cousins that had arrived the night before. It was so much fun to see everyone and celebrate our grandpa/father/uncle. It was my mom’s idea to set up a photo booth, so I’m using this as my OOTD today! How fun are those bedazzled 90 glasses? (I wore this dress with nude heels and scored lots of compliments.)

Sunday, October 2

I woke up far too early to catch a flight back to Denver and then spent much of the morning unpacking and chilling in my apartment. Now I’m at my boyfriend’s place “watching” Sunday football with him and one of his friends. I definitely have way cuter shoes to pair with this outfit, like the snakeskin ankle booties I thrifted in Scotland, but I wanted to keep things more casual for a lazy Sunday. I know this will make a cute fall date night outfit later in the season, though.

Black Crop Top: H&M, $15 ($3.00 per wear) | Black Leather Jacket: Local boutique, $25 ($0.60 per wear), last worn here | Cropped Flared Jeans: Express, $40 ($1.48 per wear), last worn here | Blush Sneakers: Steve Madden via DSW, $60 ($0.52 per wear), last worn here

. . . . .

I’m thinking I’ll sleep verrry well tonight after so many early mornings this week. Thanks for stopping by the blog today, and let me know which of this week’s outfits is your favorite! I enjoyed breaking out a few more of my summer clothes before closing up shop for the season.

Miles of smiles,
Grace

    1. Thank you, Mireille! It was so much fun decorating the cake – I think I should make cakes more often, just because!
