This past week was so much fun, and the outfits weren’t bad, either! Between a day trip to Edinburgh, a Taylor Swift karaoke night, and an ABBA disco, it’s safe to say my battery is running a *little* low today. Thankfully, I spent the whole day just relaxing and recharging for another exciting week ahead.
Monday, February 14
My friend and I woke up early this morning to take the hour and a half train ride to Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital city. We strolled down Victoria Street (the inspiration for Diagon Alley in Harry Potter), saw the Greyfriar’s Bobby (the famous dog who sat by his owner’s grave for 14 years), and checked out Tom Riddel’s tombstone (also inspiration for Harry Potter). We lunched at a cute French café and walked the Royal Mile before doing a really interesting underground tour about Edinburgh during the plague, which was a little eerie given the current pandemic. Finally, we grabbed dinner and listened to live music in a pub, followed by catching the last train back to Glasgow. A long day but so much fun!

I grabbed breakfast with a friend this morning at the cutest little tearoom in a hidden alleyway down the street from where I live. After getting some schoolwork done during the day, I went to the Taylor Swift Society’s Women in Music karaoke night on campus. It was SO much fun! A group of my friends and I got up there to sing Taylor’s “Shake It Off”, and then another friend and I ended up doing a round 2 to “Call Me Maybe”. I’m not a good singer but it’s enjoyable nonetheless. I thought this faux fur coat would be the perfect thing for the occasion!

I don’t say this often, but I was actually SO productive today! This week was reading week, which means I didn’t have most of my classes so that I could focus on assignments (this kind of cracks me up—why would I get school off to write an essay?). Anyway, I cranked out my first two assignments for two different classes, and then I was invited to a dinner party by a friend. She made a taco bar and this delicious Norwegian dessert! So much fun. My other friend and I were supposed to head to a Y2K-themed club night after dinner, but it was unfortunately cancelled due to Storm Dudley and the high winds. Hopefully it gets rescheduled to next week because we thrifted outfits just for the occasion!
This is an outfit I would never normally pair with tall black boots, but since I had to sacrifice my short black booties during packing, these tall boots were the best I had. Black riding boots always feel kind of prim and proper to me, whereas this outfit (especially the fishnets) is on the edgier side. But you know what? I’m surprised to actually kind of like the way the tall boots look with the fishnets here, with just a little bit of the tights peeping out. What do you think?

Thursday, February 17
I went to my usual stained glass class and spent the afternoon doing absolutely nothing productive. I then attended Scottish country dancing in the evening and finally went out to the pub with the group afterwards! I guess they always get drinks and pizza following practice. I thought today’s outfit was super cute, and so did everyone else apparently—I got lots of compliments on it.

I spent most of today working on my online visual analysis test for my art history class, for which I had to compare and contrast three different pairs of art. I’m not really sure if I did it correctly but I was just glad to have my first test here submitted! I spent the night in, catching up in my journal and working on a blog post. I really liked today’s outfit and felt super confident in it, aside from the hat. I’m not sure how well it goes with the look, but once again, my hair was too dirty not to cover it.

Saturday, February 19
Another productive day (two in one week? Unheard of) and then my friend came over in the evening to make dinner together. We did our hair and makeup and headed out to the ABBA Disco Wonderland! It was such a fun night listening to classics from the 70s and 80s and then watching the ABBA cover band perform (they even had fake Swedish accents). If nothing else, the people watching was very entertaining, and there were so many fabulous, groovy outfits! My favorite was a pair of sequin chevron bell-bottoms. This was the best pic I got of myself—I’m wearing a teal velour jumpsuit. Aren’t the heart-shaped sunglasses the perfect accessory? I might try and photograph this outfit next week so I can share the complete look in a blog post of its own.

. . . . .
It took me an embarrassingly long time to finish today’s blog post. I was just so lazy today and am looking forward to starting the new week fresh and well-rested—there’s a teacher’s strike happening currently, so I don’t have class on Monday or Tuesday! The perfect excuse to sleep in.
As always, thanks for stopping by today. Hope you had a great weekend!
Miles of smiles,
