This week has been so long, but truly in the best way possible. From getting my hair done (which already feels like ages ago), to lots of events on campus, to my first day trip out of the city—oh, and some school in there too—it was another busy week here in Glasgow. I’m trying to maximize my days, but I kind of feel like I need a weekend after this weekend! Anyway, here are this week’s capsule outfits—lots of pieces on repeat (mainly my jeans), but I love how different the outfits look regardless.

I spent three hours in the hair salon this morning getting my hair dyed for the first time and chopping off several inches (you can read all about it here if you missed it). I had one class today, took some blog photos, and then got dinner with a friend—followed by traditional Scottish country dancing! The two of us went to a society’s “taster” session to try it out, and while the group dancing is quite hectic, it was also really fun. Regarding today’s outfit, I’ve worn this grey-on-grey look several times before, including in my Pantone Problems blog post last year.

I spent today inside working on various tasks and prioritizing a list of must-sees while I’m in Scotland. I felt guilty for not going anywhere aside from the grocery store, but I so needed the rest. I’ve been doing so much exploring that I figured a day off would be worth it. This look was easy to throw on and go, although the browner shade of this burgundy embroidered sweater definitely clashed with my purple hair.

I spent the morning goal-setting for 2022 (a little late to the party, I know) and then met up with a friend to explore the Gallery of Modern Art in downtown Glasgow. It was sorely disappointing! Thank goodness all the museums here are free. Afterwards, the two of us attended a pizza party for international students, where I met a handful of interesting people, including the first person I’ve met from Russia! I am keeping a running list of the home countries of people I’ve met so far—Japan, China, Hong Kong, Turkey, Greece, Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, Switzerland, Germany, France, Ukraine, and now Russia.

Oh, and I loved today’s outfit. I feel so posh in this faux fur coat, and even though it’s not in the color scheme I picked for my capsule wardrobe, it pairs quite well with a lot of the pieces (and goes beautifully with my new hair).

I grabbed coffee this morning with my “mentor”, as I signed up for a mentorship program through the university before arriving to Glasgow. It was nice to ask her some of my questions about how the university works and the educational differences here. After my class, I attended a pub crawl in the evening with—get this—the Shrek Society. There really is a society for everything at this uni.

I worked on school work today and cleaned my flat before heading to an open mic night on campus with some friends. I really didn’t expect much, but the event turned out to be really fun. People only sang (I guess I thought there would be attempts at stand-up comedy) and the performers were actually quite good. I did not feel confident in this outfit, though. I put a stitch in this v-neck top the night before I left to come to Glasgow, but I realized today that I should have put the stitch even higher—this shirt is just so low-cut and I’m always worried I’ll spill out of it. I really need to find a black lacey bralette to wear underneath so that the low cut won’t be an issue.

I went to quidditch practice again today, which was a lot more fun this week as people started to get the hang of the game (and it was less cold outside). Afterwards, I met up with another student to go to one of the museums near campus and later grabbed dinner with a new friend. I really like this edgy outfit, but the only thing missing is some sort of long necklace to fill the gap on my chest.

I woke up early today to go on a school-sponsored trip to Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital, which is just a 50ish minute drive from Glasgow. I spent the morning with two girls touring the National Museum of Scotland (which was awesome, by the way), and then the three of us wandered around town, checking out St. Gile’s Cathedral, the government building, and the Royal Mile shopping area. When I got back to Glasgow in the evening, I made a quick dinner before heading to campus for a whisky tasting. Since whisky is the national drink of Scotland and such a big deal here, I thought I would give it a try… but I don’t think anything will convince me to like whisky. That stuff is nasty.
