Weekly Recap #44, 2021

I’ve been so good about getting my weekly recap posts up every single Sunday this year, but I just didn’t have it in me yesterday! So, I’m posting a day late and will be sharing my usual month-in-review blog post on Thursday instead. It was such a fun Halloweekend, and for once the weekend actually felt really long—up until I had to wake up this morning, of course. As my friend put it, “I was willing to sell my soul to the devil for an extra hour of sleep.” Weeknight Halloweens are always such a bummer!

I was so excited to wear this edgy outfit with my star tights—I had worn a similar look sophomore year with fishnets instead—but my tights got a huge run in them halfway through the day! I was SO disappointed because, according to my cost per wear spreadsheet, I had only worn them once before. What a waste of money… And from Express no less, so I expected better quality. At least I got them on sale.

Since I slacked the night before, I was super productive today and even got some laps in at the pool between to-do list items. Before my wine class, I managed to snap these cute fall photos for last Wednesday’s blog post!

Today was one of those crazy busy days where I felt like a chicken running around with its head cut off. And of course, the weather decided to be extremely windy on the day I chose to wear a loose-fitting skirt, so I’m sure some lucky person got an eyeful. I just barely managed to squeeze in a grocery store run between my classes, which I will not be attempting again, and a friend came over to carve pumpkins later in the evening (also to test out some drink recipes from my cocktail book). I carved No Face from the Hayao Miyazaki movie Spirited Away! A childhood favorite.

Today’s outfit was a classic example of one of those looks that seemed so cute in the mirror but was far less flattering once I photographed it. This black cropped sweater from a few posts ago still has a very high cost per wear, so I decided to style it with this skirt and jacket for a girlier fall look. I thought pulling the skirt up would be the perfect cropped/high-waisted combo, but now that I see this pic, I think the proportions are wrong. Something about the amount of bare stomach and bare legs seems strange to me. Still a cute look in concept, though.

I slept in a bit this morning before having an impromptu meeting with my old boss in the school’s library—I always feel so weird going into the building because I’ve probably been their less than 25 times in the last four years… I know some kids love studying at the library, but I have such a hard time focusing anywhere that isn’t my own room.

As much as I love this jumpsuit, I wish it was full-length instead of cropped—I always have a hard time deciding what shoes to pair with it once it’s no longer sandal season!

I grabbed coffee with a friend this morning before finally picking up my life-size Graceful Rags banner from Entrepreneurship Week. In the afternoon, I did my least favorite kind of chore—car stuff. Filling the tires, getting gas, changing the tabs… bleh. At least I felt accomplished by the time I went to my friend’s apartment for a super fun Halloween party! I don’t know why I have been so bad about taking pics lately, but I didn’t even get a shot of my outfit… I figured it was my last chance to finally wear a risqué college costume, so I dressed as a very sparkly Las Vegas showgirl, complete with a bedazzled black bodysuit, sparkly gloves and fishnets, a feathery headband, and a boa. Maybe for the best that a pic of that is not on the internet…

I stayed in cozy clothes all day after sleeping in late and spending the afternoon watching “Midnight Mass” with a friend—I think that show is SO scary. I’m only halfway through but I went to sleep with all the lights on the other night… I’m such a chicken. Have you seen it yet?

Sunday, October 31

Today was such a fun day! At the beginning of the school year, I made a senior year bucket list to help me make the most of my final days in college. I crossed off two items this morning: the first was attending a Zumba class (which I used to do semi-regularly sophomore year, pre-Covid) and the second was going to the Sunday market on nearby Pearl Street. There were so many cute kiddos dressed in costumes, and I got a delicious hot cider to get in the spooky mood.

I ended up spending much of the afternoon painting my face so I could join my aunt and uncle as my little cousin went trick-or-treating around his neighborhood. It was so much fun! I miss little kid Halloween, with all the cute costumes and candy—far superior to college Halloween, which is just about getting trashed.

. . . . .

How was your holiday?? Did you do anything fun to celebrate, and if so, what did you dress as? Halloween often sneaks up on me, so I don’t always get to dedicate the time I want to creating an amazing costume. That’s one of the reasons I’m so excited for post-grad life—I am going to spend my October weeknights costume designing instead of studying!

As always, thanks for stopping by today, and I hope your week is off to a great start.

Miles of smiles,

Grace

  1. I love your jumpsuit! I might be biased saying that since I am forever a fan of adult onesies! 🙂 I haven’t taken an outfit photo in awhile too. But not because I am busy like you. Just haven’t really felt it. On another note, we had a good weekend. My son and I dressed up as a baker and a cupcake for Halloween. Then we went trick or treating with his friend’s family. They got a ton of candy which was surprising considering we weren’t even sure if a lot of people were participating. I hope your week is off to a great start and happy November!

    1. How cute, a cupcake and baker! I love that! And I get that, sometimes I’m just not feeling outfit photos…

    1. Thanks Mireille! Sometimes I get it wrong though. I wore a dress on Monday and had to change mid-day because it was too chilly.
