For this week’s weekly recap, I’m teaming up with Mireille from Chez Mireille to cohost her Sunday Showcase linkup. The theme for the post was ‘Unusual Color Combinations’, so I attempted to wear an interesting color combo every day this week (attempted, being the key word). Otherwise, I had a very lazy week spent binge watching the final seasons of the “The Mindy Project” with my mom, as this was my last full week at home before heading back to school. Without further ado, here are my colorful outfits and the linkup!
Monday, August 30
I went on a walk this morning with my mom before settling into the couch for an unproductive afternoon of binging TV together. I also got my August Month in Review up, but not until 9 pm! I was so unmotivated to do anything. Today’s interesting color combo was an easy choice, as it’s an outfit I’ve worn several times before—orange and turquoise. I love complementary colors, but I try to avoid orange and true blue shades (or navy) because they remind me too much of the Boise Broncos football team. Instead, I opt for turquoise for a bright and unexpected summer outfit.

Tuesday, August 31
My mom and I went on another walk and watched more TV… I don’t know that I’ve ever been so unproductive as I was the first few days of this week. Our family friends came over for dinner, so we had a blast catching up out on the deck!
For today’s outfit, I decided on maroon and olive green. True red and green shades get a little too Christmas-y for me, but these off-shades are the perfect way to combine these complementary colors so as to avoid looking like it’s the holiday season. I love jewel tones together for fall! Although, I do think this outfit needed a long pendant necklace to break up the solid-ness of my top.

Wednesday, September 1
I ran some errands with my mom today before we decided to have a little hair cutting party. The ends of my hair suddenly became so crunchy and gross, so I asked my mom if she would cut them off for me. Afterwards, we swapped places and I trimmed her hair as well. It was fun playing ‘beauty salon’ but I don’t think either of us did a very good job! Ah well, it’s just hair—it’ll grow back. My parents went out to a social gathering tonight so I made some delish microwave mac’n’cheese and settled in to watch one of my all-time favorite movies, Tangled.
Today’s unusual color combo was navy blue and mustard yellow. This patterned blouse doesn’t technically have any yellow in it, but I thought the pants paired well with it nonetheless. I threw on my raffia slides and called it an outfit.

Thursday, September 2
In the afternoon, my dad and I went down to the golfing range to hit a bucket of balls. I was absolutely horrible—I probably swung twice as many times as I actually hit the ball—but it was a blast nonetheless. Plus, my last hit was a beauty, so it always feels good to leave on a high note. Afterwards, my parents and I went out to dinner and attended “The Tempest” at the Idaho Shakespeare Festival, which is a really cool outdoor amphitheater for plays. It was super fun—although the play was kind of hard to follow, in true Shakespeare fashion.
By Day 4 of unusual color combos, I was really struggling to find pieces to wear together. In fact, this challenge made me realize that I don’t have a very colorful closet. I almost always wear a neutral piece in every outfit, whether that be a black/grey/white blouse on top or blue jeans on the bottom. Even though khaki is a neutral, I was inspired by Mireille’s super cute brown and red outfit to style red and khaki together. It’s not that ‘out there’ at all but I was grasping at straws!

Friday, September 3
I spent the morning running errands with my mom before meeting up with a friend in the afternoon to play frisbee golf and get frozen yogurt. I didn’t realize just how see-through this top was before taking this picture… that’s really not the vibe I was going for. I’ll admit, by Friday, I kind of gave up on the unusual color combos… The most colorful pieces in my closet are thick pants, but it was still too hot to wear them! So black and blue jeans it was today… boring, I know.

Saturday, September 4
I drove to the nearby town of Eagle today to check out their Saturday Market with my friend and explore some shops (including a super cute consignment store called Again Consignment). We had a picnic afterwards on a little sandy ‘beach’ at a nearby pond—it was so peaceful. I wore this floral shirt and blue jeans because it was a little cooler this morning. Even though the colors in my outfit aren’t unusual on the large-scale, I like the mix of peachy tones and light blue in this floral top—that could inspire a cute outfit all on its own.

Later in the evening, my other girlfriend and I went out ‘on the town’ to grab dinner and drinks. I changed my top to this white crop top, which I bought at H&M freshman year and had never worn before tonight… I think it’s supposed to be styled off-the-shoulder, but off-the-shoulder stuff has always been kind of dumb to me—the second you move it pops back onto your shoulders. Regardless, I felt really cute in this outfit, but my feet weren’t very happy with me by the end of the night.

. . . . .
I wish I could have rocked an unusual color combo every day this week, but like I said, this fun challenge made me realize I should probably add a little more color to my closet. Before you leave today, be sure to share all your recent blog posts in the September Showcase linkup below!
You are invited to the Inlinkz link party!
As always, thanks for stopping by the blog today. If you are U.S.-based, I hope you’re enjoying the long weekend!

It’s always interesting to see what each person thinks as an unusual combination and what you can learn from it. I realized i usually pair brown and khaki with white or blue jeans. I definitely added a lot of color to my closet this year so i can really come up with some nrw stuff. Today it’s camo with a red tee.
Yes, I feel like your wardrobe is so colorful! I love it and always feel so inspired to add more color to my own closet!
I love the orange and blue together! I was just emailing another blogger about a colour combo I was inspired to try because of her and I know it’s not ground-breaking for someone like her who wears and mixes colours so well but it was nice for me to think of and try something a little different now and then! especially if you don’t have a lot of colour in your wardrobe it can be hard to experiment with it – but I think you did a great job with all these outfits! 🙂
Thank you for the link up!
Hope you had a great weekend 🙂 We enjoyed the warmer weather which was good as it’s another cold spring day today!
Thanks so much, Mica! It was a fun challenge trying to come up with new looks.
All of these outfits are so great, Grace! I love the orange and teal and the burgundy and olive and the purple and mustard combinations. They are all so good! And the black see through top is actually really cool and sassy with the sheerness! I am partial to a little sexy showing of undergarments in this super stylish way. I think that outfit is perfect for a night out with the girls! I hope you have the best semester coming up, my friend!
Thanks so much, Shelbee! I recently thrifted a *very* sheer maroon top and I’m excited to wear it over a red bra for a night out… It’ll definitely be out of my comfort zone but a fun change!
You are great with your color combinations and individual styles! All these outfits are cool!
Thanks Lovely! I appreciate that.
I think that you did a great job with rethinking some of the pieces in your closet to come up with new and colorful outfits.
These are all beautiful looks in their own way Grace and I can relate, I have been having the hard time getting motivated. I don’t know if it’s the change in routine and I just haven’t adjusted or perhaps the iffy sleep that I have been getting lately. And I, too, feel the same way about ots pieces! They do get a bit frustrating after awhile!
