Going Out Look with Jet Noire

I’m super excited to be teaming up with Jet Noire today to share a cute going out look for back-to-school season! Jet Noire is a company based in Atlanta, Georgia, founded by up-and-coming fashion designer Mya Brown. Mya recently completed an interview with Shoutout Georgia (similar to the interview I just did for Shoutout Colorado), so you can check out her piece here to learn more about her and her business.

When Jet Noire reached out to me for a collaboration, I couldn’t wait to choose a going-out piece and to support Mya and her small business. I decided on the Jackie Top (now sold out) because I loved the lace-up front and thought it would be perfect for going to the bars with friends once I’m back in Denver.

Now, if you’re a longtime follower, you may recognize that this kind of outfit is out of my comfort zone… However, I’ve been wanting to expand my wardrobe with more unique and edgier pieces. As my friend reminds me, we’re in our 20s! We’re only going to get older, and while I have historically dressed very modestly, I want to expand my horizons a little while I’m young and still can. This top couldn’t be more perfect for accomplishing just that.

Originally, I imagined this top with lighter wash denim—maybe even a denim skirt—for a darty back at school (you know, a day party—backyard kind of vibes). But once I received the piece in the mail, I realized it’s much too luxe for that kind of social gathering (plus, wearing white to a frat party—where someone will almost certainly spill beer on you—is not a good call). Instead, I paired the Jackie Top with high-waisted dark wash denim for a night on the town. I have a girlfriend visiting me in Denver in October, and I can’t wait to wear this look out!

For a pop of color, I added this beaded orange purse and kept my shoes neutral to elongate my legs. The Jackie Top is extremely well-made and is double-lined, so you don’t have to worry about wearing a bra. I love that you can style it multiple ways—the model is shown as wearing it off-the-shoulder, but I decided to showcase the puff sleeves. I also laced it up slightly differently than the model so that the bow is at the top of my chest instead of at the bottom. My friend asked me if I was worried about a nip-slip in this top, but I actually felt very secure in it! I even cuffed the sleeves a little bit for a more casual vibe.

I do have to admit, it was a little difficult lacing up this top the first time I tried it on. But the great part about the lace-up front is that you can choose however much (or however little!) cleavage you want to showcase. I definitely could have tightened mine more if I wanted.

I have a few thick, sparkly tops for going-out in the winter time, but I needed something more summery for grabbing drinks with the girls—and this top was the perfect piece! It is a thick, button-down kind of material, so while I did get a little hot while taking these pics, I think it’s great for those cooler summer nights where you don’t want to cover up with an ugly jacket.

Overall, I felt really spicy in this outfit, and I’m super excited to wear it out in Denver once I get back to school. While this post was in collaboration with Jet Noire, all opinions are entirely my own! Some of the brand’s items are a little too edgy for my style, but they have lots of cute going out pieces—I love the Lacey Top and Leah Pants. I also thought the Estella Dress would be so cute for a formal, but it’s already sold out. Of course, Jet Noire’s pieces are a little more expensive, but it’s so much better to support a small designer than buying cheaply-made, unethically-sourced pieces from somewhere like SheIn. I know this top will be part of some great memories and will last me throughout my 20s!

  1. Wow! Simply gorgeous Grace. This top suits you and looks absolutely stunning. I adore the lace up detail and the puff sleeves has me swooning even harder. Wishing you spectacular school year also. My son started a week ago and so far so good! But my anxiety is definitely high. Happy Thursday!

    1. Thanks so much, Maureen! I wish you and your son all the best with the new school year – I know I always get super stressed this time of year.

  2. Grace, you look freaking amazing in this outfit! What a fun edgy top. I do like it better the way you have worn it compared to the model. And the dark denim really keeps with a cool edgy vibe. I love that you are going a little out of your comfort zone, too, because that is where the magic happens!

  3. Such a fun night out top! I like the statement sleeves and it’s good you can have fun tying the front in different ways 🙂 I like the fun pop of colour with the little crossbody bag too 🙂

Hope you are having a great weekend 🙂 We went to Australia Zoo yesterday, so much fun 🙂

  4. I’m so glad you are trying out different styles like this Grace. It’s fabulous to embrace your age and have fun this way. In all reality, I might even wear this top myself and I’m OLD. But I could layer it over a cami (maybe a print one for fun) or another kind of top. Besides there are many older women that don’t mind flaunting a little skin (which I follow on IG) because life is good!!

    1. Definitely!! I need to embrace that attitude more! As my grandma always used to tell me, “If you’ve got it, flaunt it.” I need to make her proud, haha!
