This has been such a fun and eventful week! I spent time with friends old and new, crossed off two items from my ever-growing bucket list (woo-hoo!), and picked up my bridesmaid dress for my brother’s wedding. Summer is very quickly winding down and I’m trying to soak in as much fun and family time before I move back to school. Here are this week’s outfits, as well as my version of a few ‘going out’ looks!

I wrote my blog post first thing this morning and then spent the day catching up on chores around the house, since I was away in Vegas for two weeks. I also ran a few errands around town, which included picking up my bridesmaid dress! It is absolutely beautiful (I love the color my brother and his fiancé chose) and the dress fits like a glove… I definitely won’t be eating dessert the week before the wedding. I spent the entire afternoon trying to find the perfect nude heels to wear with the dress, per the bride’s request, but it seems that all nude shoes are sold out in my size. All of my favorite styles (block heels, not too tall, perfect for dancing the night away) were either out of stock or way too expensive! Who knew shoe shopping would turn into such a chore.

My dad and I picked up bowls for dinner and then watched Rocketman, the movie about Elton John. Afterwards, we ventured out to get shakes at our favorite local dive. I don’t know what I wore before I bought these denim shorts—I wear them at least once a week—but I do think they’ve shrunk up a bit since I first bought them… bummer.

I spent the morning working for my research position, which, as it turns out, will be ending later this month. I don’t want to be jobless in the fall (how else will I support my shopping habits?) so I spent a lot of today and this week buffing up my resume, writing cover letters, and looking for jobs on campus. In the afternoon, I made an impromptu trip across town to deliver flowers to my friend’s house. Florist arrangements are unfortunately way out of my budget, so I packed up a variety of vases, ribbon, flower cutters, and water to make my own bouquet with supermarket flowers. I stopped at a grocery store on the way to her house and made my lil’ arrangement in the parking lot. I’m sure I looked super weird cutting and positioning flowers on the top of my car, but hey, I think the bouquet turned out not half bad.

After dinner, I had my dad drop me off downtown to get drinks with two of my girlfriends! I don’t have many traditional ‘going out’ clothes (i.e. borderline slutty) but I thought this floral cutout romper was a really cute and classy option. Doing my hair in a side braid has been my go-to lately because my hair is just too long/heavy to curl anymore, especially in the summer heat.

Today was such a fun day! My dad and I drove a few hours to Craters of the Moon, which is a national monument in Idaho with a very unique, moon-like landscape caused by volcanic activity (seen above—it doesn’t look like much in pictures, though). It is supposedly so much like the moon’s terrain that astronauts actually trained here in 1969!

Anyway, I was supposed to go on a field trip to Craters of the Moon in the seventh grade and it was cancelled last minute… I’ve been bitter ever since, so this trip has been eight years in the making. I’m thinking I might do a blog post about the visit in a few weeks, but for now, the recap: my dad and I picnicked, hiked around, and explored the caves (first pic in today’s post). We also decided to camp out at the monument in the bed of our truck so I could cross off another bucket list item—falling asleep under the stars! Of course, I have slept in tents before, but I’ve never slept completely outside. It was incredible to wake up in the middle of the night and be greeted by a sky filled with bright stars and the Milky Way. It was even more special that we aligned our camp-out perfectly with the peak of the Perseids meteor shower! I saw the longest, brightest shooting star I’ve ever seen in my life. Breathtaking.

We drove back home bright and early this morning, and then I got to work on my blog post. After my work meeting in the afternoon, I took a healthy nap—stargazing in the truck was beautiful but not the comfiest! Later that night, I got drinks downtown with an old high school friend, whom I haven’t seen since the day we graduated in May of 2018. It was so much fun to catch up!

I wasn’t sure what to wear, but my blue bodysuit ended up pairing perfectly with this patterned skirt that I haven’t styled in forever. I’m surprised I haven’t thought of the combo before, but it made the discovery of the pairing that much more exciting. Speaking of which, this blue bodysuit is now on major discount at Nordstrom Rack—only $21, which is less than half of what I paid for it. Grr! You can shop it in the widget below; I really love this piece and the ribbed material.

I think I would have preferred this outfit with black sandal heels instead of flats. However, I’ve discovered that I already feel extremely awkward and out of place in bars, so I prefer not to wear things like heels or lipstick, which I generally save for when I’m feeling confident. Only one thing can be out of my comfort zone at a time…

Friday, August 13

I slept in until 10 (!) and then proceeded to be extremely lazy in my PJs all day, binging season 1 of “The Handmaid’s Tale”. Have you seen the show? It’s extremely disturbing but really good. I was trying to catch up on the first season so my dad and I could watch the rest together.

The two of us had a rather eventful night. All of the fire alarms went off in our house, so we spent half an hour in the middle of dinner trying to decide what triggered them (there was no fire or smoke or anything). I ultimately called the fire department and spoke to a firefighter about it, and boy, let me tell you, he was spicy—definitely sexy calendar worthy. I could tell just from his voice. Everything was fine thankfully, so my dad and I went back to our evening and watched the movie Parasite on Hulu. One of the weirdest movies I’ve ever seen… You definitely have to watch it! So entertaining!

I spent the morning cleaning my room and working. I feel this strange need to purge as much as possible from my bedroom, but I’m also a very sentimental person… It’s a constant battle trying to decide what to donate. I only just threw out my science fair experiments from middle school… I got first place in the sixth grade for an experiment about ways to prevent onions from making you cry. Good times. In the evening, I ran some last-minute errands to DSW and Target. DSW is having a promo right now for VIP members where you can donate a pair of gently worn shoes once a week in the month of August to get a $10 credit. I’ll be back every week until the end of the month!

I also picked up dinner for my dad and me from our favorite Nepalese restaurant on the way home. I ordered our dishes as spicy, and I knew I had made a mistake when the man handed me our meal, laughed, and said, “I’m surprised you like it spicy.” Boy, I’ve never experienced such a pain from food before… I learned my lesson for sure!

In other news, I just ordered these raffia slides from Target and really like them. I wanted casual summer shoes to style with my new wicker purse, which I thrifted for $5 when in Las Vegas. I love the two together and think they will pair with lots of summer outfits. I couldn’t link these sandals in the widget below, but you can buy them here.

Thanks for stopping by the blog today! I know today’s post was a little chatty but I feel like I had a lot to share… What’s something exciting that happened to you this week? Do you have a bucket list, and if so, what’s on it?

Hope you have a great rest of your Sunday.
