Neutrals for Spring

Wow, it’s been just over two weeks since I last published a good ol’ fashioned, single outfit blog post! I’ve really been slacking with my blogging game lately, but I’m hoping to turn it around for the second half of this month—starting with this edgy neutral outfit!

I love how this look came together, even though it’s a little out of my comfort zone. I haven’t styled this black and beige floral jumpsuit in a real blog post yet, but I’ve worn it several times in my Weekly Recap posts and absolutely love it! It’s so easy and comfy to throw on and go, which seems to be the type of outfit I’ve been gravitating towards lately. But since it’s back to being too chilly for bare shoulders (Denver weather is always so temperamental), I decided to throw my new black denim jacket on top. I talked about this in last weekend’s Weekly Recap, but I really don’t know what I did before buying this jacket from my Nordstrom Trunk Club box last month. It has become such a staple!

The only downside to this jumpsuit is the length. I do wish it was full-length instead of cropped because I think it would make it *slightly* more flattering on me. Plus, sometimes I struggle with what shoes to pair with this jumpsuit! It seems too cropped to work with booties, right?

Anyway, what really pulls this outfit together and gives it that extra flare are the accessories. Sungait, a sunglasses seller on Amazon, reached out to me a few weeks ago to send me a pair of one of their sunglasses. I’ve been seeing these edgy, roundish gold frame sunglasses everywhere lately, so I instantly knew I wanted to try them out! What do you think of them?! Too Ozzy Osborne-esque? I almost feel like I’m not cool enough to pull them off.

Either way, they really bring this outfit together. I am also extremely impressed with the quality of these sunglasses, especially for the price, because they arrived in pristine condition in very nice packaging, which included a sunglasses bag, a cleaning cloth, and a tiny screwdriver to fix the screws, should they come loose. My only complaint is that the metal frames pinch my head a bit, and I’m certain these shades would give me a headache if I wore them for too long… which is a bummer, but not an uncommon problem for me (I think I just have a big head!). I’m sure that if I purchased a pair that didn’t have metal arms, I wouldn’t get a headache… That has typically been my experience with sunglasses in the past, so keep that in mind if you decide to buy a pair!

Sungait has lots of super cute styles that you can check out here, or you can buy my exact pair of sunnies here. You can also use my discount code “gracefulrags” for 30% off your Sungait purchase! Even though these sunglasses were sent to me for free, these opinions are 100% my own, and I really am that impressed with the quality.

The other accessory that helps make this outfit is the bag. I purchased this clutch/crossbody ages ago from Francesca’s for only $20. While it does show some wear and tear if you look closely, it continues to be one of my most worn purses, and I absolutely love how the gold elephant matches perfectly with the gold frames of my sunglasses. I felt so cool in this look!! And I will definitely be wearing it again as the weather warms up a bit.

Do you like wearing neutrals for spring? And what do you think of these shades—cool, or not for me? Usually I gravitate towards color for spring, but something about this all-neutral look seemed super cute and ‘fresh’. And the orangish rock in the backdrop turned out to be the perfect complementary color!

    1. Thanks so much, Mireille! I really appreciate that because I never feel like my poses are very good, haha.

  1. I really like the length of this jumpsuit Grace. It seems more modern and fun!! I definitely wear booties with my cropped pants, and you should definitely try it!! I bet it’s still cold enough there to work for awhile, haha (not that I’m rubbing it in. No not at all. I won’t tell you that it was a fabulous 83 degrees today)

    1. Jodie, STOOOOP! I’m so jealous… Can’t imagine why you moved to beautiful and warm Arizona… lol. Thanks for stopping by the blog!!

  2. Grace, I love this outfit! You know I am a fan of colors and neutrals all the time! I think that you could wear booties with this jumpsuit but you would probably have to play around with different heel and shaft heights. I am thinking mid-calf sock booties might work. I really like your adorable elephant bag and black denim jacket. I just had a black denim jacket in my hand at Old Navy. I even took it to the register and then I decided against it. But now I am reconsidering!

    1. That’s so true Shelbee!! Some of those taller, tighter booties would look really chic with this. And I remember you saying you bought the white denim jacket instead – also such a great choice! I’ve been wanting one of those too.

  3. You could even make these circular frames as part of your signature look just like John Lennon and Elton John once did. I love your look and the accessories you chose for the outfit. I have to compliment you on the photo backgrounds, too! I adore the way you utilize the beauty of your surroundings. Thanks for sharing and have a good weekend. Aiva 🙂 xxx

    1. Thank you so much Aiva!! I snapped these photos on campus. There are lots of pretty, old buildings around! And so true, these glasses are very Lennon and Elton John-esque! Hope you’re having a great weekend. 🙂

  4. Hi, Grace, thanks for visiting my blog! I love this cute casual outfit – and I agree, the accessories make it.

I also struggle with booties + cropped legs – it just seems to stumpify my legs (I’m 5’4″), so I tend to do a ballet-style flat or sandal, like you’ve done here. I wore a denim jacket for YEARS as my go-to topper for everything, but gave it up a few years ago as it was taking away from me wearing my fun blazers and other jackets (I have a bit of a jacket addiction, lol).

Your elephant bag is awesome! Wear and tear is fine on vintage stuff – for me, it adds to the bag’s history.

Have a lovely weekend! I’ve subscribed, so will be a regular commenter going forward. 🙂

    1. Thanks so much Sheila!! I just subscribed to yours as well. 🙂 I don’t have many flats but I agree, a pair of black or beige ones, or even a pop of color, would look super cute with this jumpsuit as well! And that’s so true… I feel like I wear my denim jackets too much compared to my other fun layers… Gotta change that up!

  5. I think that’s a great jumpsuit on you and I agree that denim jacket will be such a staple! I really need to expand my denim jacket collection! I’d like to try a white one and a brighter coloured one – just have blue ones at the moment! Because I’m petite though it’s tricky to get sizing right, it’s really something I need to try on in store and I haven’t had much time for that kind of shopping with the kids, haha! 🙂

I’ve joined your link up too – I hope that is okay! It used to be for college people only but it doesn’t say that so I’ve jumped on – please delete if it’s not okay!

Hope that you are having a good weekend 🙂 We enjoyed the summer-like weather yesterday at the playground 🙂

    1. Thanks so much for joining Mica!! Nobody was joining it when it was just college-aged, so I decided to open it up to everyone and am so glad you joined. 🙂 I’ve been wanting to try a white denim jacket, too. They seem so cute and versatile! Hope you’re having a great weekend!

  6. Thinking I might just need a black denim jacket now!! Really like this look. The dark floral is great for transitioning between seasons. And those strappy sandals are so sassy and flirty. Very cute. IMO you are the perfect amount of cool to pull off those fun glasses. Thanks for linking up for #AgelessStyleLinkUp.

    1. Thank you so much for your sweet comment! I’ve been wearing my black denim jacket nonstop… would definitely recommend one!
