9 Ways to Wear Green This St. Patty’s Day

Yesterday afternoon, I did my hair and makeup and marched out to campus to take some blog photos for the week, including a green outfit to share for a St. Patrick’s Day-themed post. Long story short, the photos did not turn out (and the outfit wasn’t nearly as cute as I thought it was). It’s moments like those where I dramatically spiral out of control and wonder why I blog in the first place, ha! So instead today, I’m rounding up some of my favorite green outfits from recent years, featuring subtle ways to wear the color this holiday. I imagine most people think of a bright, Kelly green when they think of St. Patty’s Day, which can be hard to style (and an unusual color to find in stores), so most of today’s looks feature shades of olive or hunter green—gotta wear it in some form so you don’t get pinched!

Casual Camo

Even though green is my favorite color, I don’t own a lot of it aside from olive shades. Layering a camo button down over a lace cami is a casual and unexpected way to wear green this holiday. You can see more of this look here.

Olive and Orange

Is wearing green and orange too literal for St. Patrick’s Day? Too leprechaun-y? You can be the judge of that… This scarlet dress looks super cute anytime with my olive military jacket for a warm spring day. Check out more in this post! (Back when my hair was super short.)

Green Boho

I think this is such a cute, easy outfit, and the green and brown boho blouse would be perfect for St. Patrick’s Day. If you have green in your closet but are unsure how to style it, try pairing it with brown accessories—olive and lime shades go well with brown and other earth tones. You can see more of this outfit in this blog post.

Preppy St. Patty’s

Maybe you don’t have any traditional green colors in your closet, but I would argue seafoam green and more turquoise/mint shades fit the bill as well. This outfit was my Jessica Day inspired look from quarantine, and while the sweater is on the bolder side, it’s a fun pop of color to pair with white, navy, or black. I think it would be super cute layered over a white cami with skinny jeans and flats for a sassy spring look.

Green Leopard

I wish I had this blouse with me at school because I would wear it on the 17th in a heartbeat! Even if you don’t have anything solid green, patterned pieces work just as well, like this cute leopard top. I styled it with a black corduroy skirt and edgy accessories at the end of last summer (see more here), but I think this outfit would transition perfectly into March with a jean jacket layered on top.

Colored Pants

I’ve never been one to shy away from colored or printed pants, which stems from my high school dress code (every color of denim was allowed except for traditional blue jeans). I love this hunter green pair but can never find a similar pair to link for you to shop. However, if you have olive pants (which were oh-so-trendy a few years ago), those would be a great alternative in this look. Layering a collared shirt under a sweater with a statement necklace is one of my go-to outfit combinations! You can see more of this preppy look here.

Edgy Glam

Bringing back the camo for an edgy glam look (is that a thing?). I love the biker chick vibes of this leather jacket, but the pearl belt and sparkly statement necklace help to soften it up a bit. You can see more of this outfit here.

Shades of Olive

This is my ‘first day of school’ outfit, which I have worn all three first days of college thus far. Again, this is a very subtle way to do green on St. Patrick’s Day, but I love the monochromatic look and pop of color with the clutch. You can check out the full outfit here!

Pattern Mixing

Bringing back that same striped tee but pairing it with a plaid skirt this time. While the pattern mixing is bold, the colors are very subtle, and the olive utility jacket helps to ‘quiet down’ the look. These photos weren’t my favorite, but I absolutely love this outfit! For a springier version you could even swap out the utility jacket for a denim jacket, although that would make the look less ‘green’. See more of the outfit here.

Which of these green outfits is your favorite? Do you usually wear green or even celebrate St. Patrick’s Day? I don’t normally do anything special, but I always try to come up with a cute outfit, obviously.

It’s interesting to reminisce on how last year, amidst the very beginning of the pandemic, I spent St. Patrick’s Day driving 12 hours from Denver back home after the school told us to ‘pack for spring break as if you’re not coming back’. My dad came to town to help me move out of the dorm, and we were debating back and forth whether I should also drive my car home in case the school shut down for good. Thank goodness I did because during the drive we got the email that said school would be closed the rest of the year! So crazy to think back to those hectic days when this all first started…

Anyway, I hope you have a great Monday! Let me know of any fun and safe plans you have for St. Patrick’s Day in the comments below—I’ll always take any excuse to celebrate.

Miles of smiles,
Grace

  1. Some really cute outfits, I especially love the last one! I live in Northern Ireland so St. Patrick’s day is pretty big here, I’m pretty sad we’re in a lockdown this year but it’s also my dog’s birthday so I guess we can have a little celebration for that haha:)

    1. Oh that’s so cool!! I imagine there are huge parades and whatnot? That sounds so fun, I would love that… Yes, lockdown is too bad, but I hope you enjoy your dog’s birthday at least, haha! Thanks for stopping by!

  3. I can’t believe it’s been a year since everything shut down and the second year we will not be celebrating St Patrick’s Day! I love all of these darling looks! My favorite is the olive and orange!
