Get to Know Me Through My Style!

If someone asked me how I define my personal style, I wouldn’t have a direct answer. Eclectic? All over the place? I’ve always had a diverse interest in my academic studies and hobbies, and the same holds true for fashion. From old fashioned dresses to studded jackets to tons of collared shirts, I like to think I have a little bit of every style in my closet! Sure, this makes branding my fashion blog a little difficult (I don’t share exclusively super feminine outfits, nor do I just share casual looks), but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Sometimes you can learn a lot about a person through the way they dress, so I thought it would be fun to share my most-worn styles, along with some of my hobbies and traits that most correspond to those categories of fashion. Hope you enjoy this unique get-to-know me post!

Style 1: BOHO

Go-To Fashion Pieces: Printed palazzo pants, mock-neck tank tops, loose-flowing skirts (sometimes worn as tops), strappy sandals

Traits: Adventurous (occasionally), creative, gets restless with routines, loves trying new foods, rarely puts things away when finished with them

Hobbies + Activities: Drawing, reading, hiking, basking in the sun on lazy summer days

Outfits Inspired By: Traveling!!!! And boho Pinterest girls

Notes: I mostly wear boho-style outfits in the summer when it’s too hot to wear anything but breezy fabrics.

Style 2: PREPPY

Go-To Fashion Pieces: Cute trousers and alllll the collared shirts (layered under sweaters or dresses, of course)

Traits: Extremely organized, curious, goal-setter, a little too much of a perfectionist

Hobbies + Activities: Makes lists of the lists that need to be made, obsessively tracks cost per wear in an Excel spreadsheet, spends too much time doing schoolwork

Outfits Inspired By: The fashion blogging scene of the early- to mid-2010s when everyone wore really colorful pieces with lots of layers and pattern mixing

Notes: My preppy style stems from years of school uniforms and a high school dress code that required collared shirts (hence the large collection of such shirts), but I don’t reach for preppy looks as often in college. Although, I would say preppy fashion most corresponds to my Type A personality!

Style 3: EDGY

Go-To Fashion Pieces: Pleather jackets in as many colors as possible, black lace-up pants, white studded mules, choker necklaces

Traits: Enjoys wearing studded pieces but that’s about my only edgy quality

Hobbies + Activities: Learning the basics of mixology, wrote a post about the IBTC on the blog (gasp!), signed up to be a model at Denver Fashion Week (and failed)

Outfits Inspired By: Pinterest girls who are way cooler than I could ever be

Notes: I would say this is the most common style I reach for, though only because of a few pieces in my closet (I’m not a very ‘edgy’ or spontaneous person but I like to build outfits around a few edgier items).

Style 4: GIRLY

Go-To Fashion Pieces: Polka dot skirt, black knee boots, chic dresses, brooches and other sparkly jewelry

Traits: Loves surprises, always smiles in pictures, dresses up as much as possible, sentimental

Hobbies + Activities: Fashion blogging (duh), spending hours trying on different outfits just for fun, scrapbooking, learning to sew, writing letters

Outfits Inspired By: My grandma, old fashioned clothing, “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”

Notes: I hardly own any pink clothing, but rather than color, I reach for girly shapes and patterns when I wear this style. If given the choice between a girly-girl and a tomboy, there’s no question I’m the former!

And there you have it, my most-worn style ‘categories’ and my personality traits that match them most! It’s hard to definitively categorize every outfit, as lots of my looks incorporate aspects of several styles (like this preppy + edgy outfit), but I do try my best to label as many blog posts as possible to make for easy searching in the sidebar. If you navigate to the widget called ‘Explore Outfits by Category’, you can browse my blog posts by these four styles and several additional categories.

Which of these four styles best summarizes your fashion choices?? Or do you fall into one not mentioned here, like ‘classic’ or ‘casual’ or ‘grungy’? Or maybe you’re all over the place like me! Some bloggers have such specific niches when it comes to the fashion they wear, but I’ve accepted that I will never be one of those bloggers.

Let me know your favorite types of fashion or a fun fact about yourself in the comments below, and thanks for stopping by!

Miles of smiles,

Grace

  1. I really love boho style but I have to watch it as flowy things are not the most flattering on this mama of 4. I do have a couple of edgy pieces that I like to add to my outfits so those would be my top 2 of these categories. Love all of the looks you shared, you rock them all but I think those are my 2 favorites on you too.

    1. Thanks so much, Mireille! I usually try to stay away from too many flowy things too. Usually I either pick a flowy top or a flowy bottom, but not both!

  2. You’re lucky to have such a diverse style Grace, and to effortlessly move between the different genres. Some great looks!

  3. Hi Grace,
That is certainly what makes fashion fun! I know alot of people say I have a romantic style, but I have an obsession with moto jackets ( in many colors!) I can relate. We seem similar in personality! I am a to do list maker and have all the traits you listed under girly! Love that you have fun with fashion and dress how you feel on that day. That first boho look is so fun, love the pants!
It is fun getting to know you!
    thanks for linking!

    1. Thank you so much Jess!! Isn’t list making so fun? Haha! I can definitely see your style as romantic but you do have all those cool jackets! Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

  4. I definitely don’t have a particular niche for fashion either – I like having choice and being able to wear different things on different days. I’d say the word that most describes my style is casual – as I really do dress down a lot, it’s just easier for mum life! I love boho styles but I also like a classic shorts and a tee outfit too, and I did used to enjoy dressing up for the office back when we worked in one! I like not really having a defined style, I just buy and wear what I want, but casual (with a tough of feminine and boho) is probably the easiest way to describe it all!

Thanks so much for joining the #WeekdayWearLinkup!
