Weekly Recap #1, 2021

online class, zoom university, global pandemic, coronavirus school

Welcome to 2021! I originally planned on skipping this week’s recap, but then I realized it’s the first one of the new year, and I can’t miss the first post! In fact, I’m hoping to have 52 of these weekly recaps by the end of the year—which means I have to get dressed enough times every. single. week. to actually have something worth sharing… It will be tough in the summer when I basically live in lounge clothes. But anyway, here’s what I’ve been up to these past few days, along with some outfits!

I played tennis with my dad and then spent the rest of the day doodling in my planner—I can’t wait to share my Christmas- and New Year’s Eve-themed weekly spreads in the coming days!

I spent the morning cleaning my bedroom and putting away decorations/gift wrapping supplies from Christmas, and I ran errands with my mom in the afternoon. Green and pink are my two favorite colors, so I thought it’d be fun to pair them together in an outfit. I like the dark green of the pants with the lighter shade of pink, but overall this look is pretty bland! (This pink sweater is featured in the first pic of today’s recap, originally seen in 10 Reasons to Get Dressed for Online Classes).

For the first time in too many weeks to count, I was actually productive! I wrote my thank you notes for my Christmas gifts, scheduled a blog post, paid bills, etc. I also took blog photos and my annual Elf on the Shelf photo (the more accurate term for this year’s rendition is ‘Elf on a Ladder’), which you can read more about in this blog post!

I hung out for most of the day, trying to brainstorm goals for the new year and catch up in my planner (I’ve been lazy lately and am now very behind in my journaling). I told myself I would throw on something sparkly for the evening like the outfit above, just for fun, but instead I cozied up in my PJs (surprise surprise). We always have a movie marathon on NYE, and this year’s theme was John Cusack—we watched Say Anything, Grosse Pointe Blank, and the worst movie ever made, whose title isn’t even worth mentioning.

I slept in after a long night of partying on NYE (kidding) and went for a walk with my parents in the afternoon, a New Year’s Day tradition of ours. At 3 o’clock, we bundled up to sit out on our deck with our good family friends for a little socially distanced happy hour. I also attended a Zoom get-together with my brother’s fiancé and her friends—I’m going to be a bridesmaid in the wedding and could not be more excited!

Purple Sweater: Hand-me-down, last worn here | Grey Straight Leg Jeans: Express, $19 | Blush Sneakers: Steve Madden via DSW, $60, last worn here | Pearl Choker: Christmas gift, Francesca’s

How was your New Year’s Eve and Day? Did you do anything special to ring in 2021? Several years ago my family started this tradition where every Sunday we write something we’re grateful for on a small, colorful piece of paper. We add all the papers into a big bowl and at the start of the new year, we get together to read some of our gratitudes to each other from the previous year! Since I can’t be with my brothers right now, my whole family had a Zoom meeting this morning to share our gratitudes over the screen. It’s always fun and heartwarming to reflect on our many blessings from throughout the year, and 2020’s included lots about good health, a comfortable home in which to quarantine, and the best friends and family to get us through.

Happy 2021!

Miles of smiles,

Grace

    1. It’s so much fun Mireille!! You should! And practicing gratitude is such a good habit to get into.

  1. I love that idea about putting things you are grateful for in a bowl and then rereading them after the year is through! I think I might do this 🙂 happy new year! Also, I looove that red sequin jacket

    1. Thank you!! The gratitude journal is such a nice tradition. You totally should! It helps you remember all the good parts of life, even when things get tough. 🙂

  2. Your elf outfit is the cutest, Grace! I really hope you had a lovely festive season and a fun New Year’s Eve. Let’s hope this year is more positive and full of new adventures. Thanks for sharing and have a good day. Aiva 🙂 xxx
