Nine Halloween Costume Ideas

Wearing an Audrey Hepburn costume to recreate an iconic photo

Happy Monday! Boy, did that weekend fly or what? Today I’m sharing nine Halloween costume ideas in preparation for Saturday. Admittedly, I have not been as excited for Halloween this year, for obvious reasons… Which is saying a lot, because my long-time followers know how much I love costumes! (In fact, being a costume designer is one of my dream careers.) But after seeing several other bloggers posting fun costume ideas, I couldn’t help but share some of my own favorite looks from years past. The best part is that a lot of these costumes can be recreated with items already in your closet. Perfect for those procrastinators, like me!

Jessica Day style, Jessica Day outfits, New Girl outfits ruffle navy dress, green cardigan, pink belt, New Girl style

Jessica Day from “New Girl”

If you’re a fan of the show “New Girl”, this easy Jessica Day look is the costume for you. Just think A-line dresses, cardigans, and faux bangs! You can read more tips for how to recreate this look and watch the faux bangs tutorial I used by checking out this blog post. I also shared some super cute navy dresses in the widget below.

Halloween costume, Billy the Puppet, Saw movie puppet, black pleather jacket, red lipstick

Billy the Puppet from Saw

For all my Saw fans out there, this Billy the Puppet costume will surely spook someone in your life. I used this face paint palate to create the look, which I highly recommend. You can make so many costumes with it, and the paint is just as fun to show off your spirit for game days/tailgating, if you’re into that sorta thing. Check out the full tutorial for this costume here.

Blair Waldorf style, Blair Waldorf outfit gossip girl style, gossip girl series, pink floral dress

Blair Waldorf from “Gossip Girl”

Looking for a glam outfit for Halloween? It doesn’t get more stylish than dressing up as Blair Waldorf from “Gossip Girl”. I really loved how this outfit turned out, which, like my Jessica Day look, was part of my Binge Worthy Fashion series back at the beginning of quarantine. Even though I’ve already seen “Gossip Girl”, I’m really tempted to watch it again so I can live vicariously through their extravagant lives. See the rest of this outfit here! And don’t ever forget your signature Blair headband.

Han Solo costume, Princess Leia costume, Luke Skywalker costume Star Wars day, quarantine activities

Princess Leia from Star Wars

To be honest, I completely forgot about this costume until I went looking through my archived photos, and I burst out laughing when I saw the pic of Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and me. Truly priceless. All of our outfits are made from a random assortment of household items, so I highly recommend checking out this post for all the deets! This costume was easy and such a blast to create, and, funny enough, the artist who drew my caricature last week asked me if anyone had ever told me that I look like Carry Fisher. I wish I could’ve shown him this pic!

Also, may the force be with you all.

2020, new decade, new year's eve, roaring 20s Roaring 20s, flapper girl, new decade, 2020

A Flapper Girl

Like Blair Waldorf, dressing as a flapper girl is a pretty damn fabulous Halloween costume. I absolutely adore this look, which I shot for my 2019 New Year’s Eve blog post before entering the Roaring 20s. Boy, little did we know…

Anyway, I was planning on going speakeasy-hopping (you know, like a classier version of barhopping?) with my aunt in a few weeks to celebrate my 21st birthday, wearing this outfit, obviously. Since that can’t happen due to Covid, I’ll just have to save this look for some time in the future! Thankfully, speakeasies will still be around once this pandemic is over. See more of this glam outfit here.

Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane, face paint, halloween costume Ziggy Stardust collage, David Bowie Halloween costume

David Bowie from the Aladdin Sane Album Cover

Okay, I was pretty disappointed last year when absolutely nobody knew who I was supposed to be in this face paint. As Mr. Potato Head in Toy Story says, “You uncultured swine!” But anyway, this is a simple face paint tutorial that would be fun to rock with faux fur, a sequin dress, or any other extravagant fabrics you have in your closet. See more in this blog post.

Midge Maisel, binge worthy TV, must watch amazon prime shows Midge Maisel, Amazon Prime shows, green accessories

Midge Maisel from “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”

If you haven’t seen “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” yet, leave this blog post right now and go watch it. It’s a hysterical show, and the 50s era fashion is absolutely incredible. Of course, I had to create a Midge-inspired outfit! You can see more of this look and read all about the show here.

Riverdale show, Riverdale fashion, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge, Cheryl Blossom

The Ladies of “Riverdale”

Yes, “Riverdale” is one of the worst shows out there, and yes, my parents and I still watch it. No matter how corny and unrealistic “Riverdale” is, you can’t deny that Betty Cooper, Cheryl Blossom, and Veronica Lodge have some serious style. You can see more of each of these looks in this blog post. I think Cheryl’s is my favorite! (Recognize the dress from my flapper outfit??)

cigarette holder vintage long black gloves Audrey Hepburn

Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Last, but certainly not least, is this iconic Audrey Hepburn costume. Aside from the long gloves and the fake cigarette thing, this outfit came entirely from my closet. This might be my favorite Halloween costume of all time, and I absolutely adore the first image of today’s blog post. You can swing by the original blog post here to see the side-by-side comparison of my photos and Audrey’s!

Which of these costumes is your favorite? And what Halloween plans do you have, if any?? I think I plan on lounging inside all day and watching horror/Halloween movies. I bought gluten-free brownie mix at the store the other day, so I’ll make those at some point during the weekend as well. While I don’t have a costume planned, I do have a cute ~spooky~ themed outfit in the works that I’ll probably jazz up a bit with a hint of face paint. Stay tuned!

As always, thanks so much for stopping by today.

Miles of smiles,
Grace

  1. I love your Halloween outfit ideas and the way you rock the Audrey Hepburn look; it’s just perfect. I still watch the Riverdale, too. The first season was so much fun and sort of misterios, but I couldn’t quite find it interesting once the second season started. Thanks for sharing your costume ideas and have a good day 😀 Aiva
