Capsule Wardrobe Outfits: Week 6

Thanksgiving outfit, glass pumpkin centerpiece

Hello! I decided after last week’s weekly recap that I needed to make these Saturday posts more interesting, either by spicing up my writing (and what I choose to talk about) or by actually spicing up my days themselves. Thankfully, this week offered some fun and out-of-the-ordinary activities, so hopefully I succeeded at both.

I kept things casual today for a day full of schoolwork in the apartment. My GIS lecture was online, and I spent a bulk of the day taking my Sociology of Violence midterm virtually, which just consisted of four essay questions. In the late afternoon, I went for a run in the nearby neighborhood, checked out all the fun Halloween decorations on people’s doorsteps, and got lost in some crazy daydreams! To finish the day, my boyfriend and I went on an impromptu, late-night run to Ben and Jerry’s. I got the Mint Chocolate Chunk flavor—mmmm.

I didn’t have my usual sociology lecture today because of the online midterm, so I spent the bulk of the morning voting! I took a selfie with my mask and my ballot as I dropped it into the outgoing mailbox to commemorate voting in my first presidential election. I still had a lot of my sociology midterm to finish, so I did that before heading to my boyfriend’s apartment for our usual Tuesday night dinners—tonight was pizza. Sadly, my favorite pendant necklace broke while there, and of course, all the beads were the exact same color as the floor… So needless to say, I’ll be fixing the necklace over winter break, but it’s going to end up a little shorter than it was originally due to a loss of beads.

I had to get a Covid test first thing this morning. It wasn’t because I came into contact with anyone, but I just happened to be selected for randomized testing—not surprisingly, it came back negative. And thankfully, this time it didn’t hurt! When I got my first test back in September, it hurt so badly, so I was very nervous this time around. For the rest of the day, I spent a couple of hours doing my GIS lab, and then I took photos for last Thursday’s blog post in the afternoon.

The temperatures really dropped today, as you probably surmised from my outfit. As I was walking from my sociology lecture to my sustainability class, these people at a little stand gave me a free hot chocolate, which was exactly what I was craving—it completely made my morning! I spent the afternoon working on a very frustrating project for a business class before starting my busy night… First I had a meeting for the research journal of which I’m apart, then I went to a virtual event where I got a caricature of myself drawn (so exciting—I’ve always wanted one!), and then I went hot-tubbing outside, in the 25 degree weather… I thought I would regret that decision instantly, but it ended up being so much fun! Even though my clothes and towel froze to the chair…

You guys… I accidently slept in until ELEVEN today! It’s been years since I’ve even been able to sleep in like that, but I guess my body really needed the rest. I did some work for my research position for a few hours before making a speed trip to the grocery store with my roommate. We were out and back within an hour, and I was so impressed! I then ran a 5k on the treadmill in our gym for a school event (it’s Homecoming week), and it was honestly awful. Running on a treadmill makes it so much harder in my opinion, but it was too cold and slippery to run outside.

To be honest, I don’t really like today’s outfit, but since I really needed to do laundry, it was one of my only options.

And here’s today’s outfit! I’m a little more dressed up than usual, and I’m currently in my second Saturday class of the quarter for my Entrepreneurship minor. Today we’re learning how to pitch, and so far I’m really enjoying the course. This is the first time I’ve worn this jacket with my hair down, though, and it keeps snagging on the stud detailing on the shoulders… So I’ve made a mental note of that for the future.

General Thoughts on My First Capsule Wardrobe

Since the temperatures finally dropped, I was freezing all week… and was really wishing I had brought more cold weather clothing. Now, when I look in my closet each morning, the majority of the stuff is suited for 50 and 60 degree fall weather, not 20 and 30 degree winter weather. I wish I had packed more sweaters, and I realllllly wish I had brought more sweatpants and fuzzy socks for lounging around the apartment. I’m starting to formulate a list of what I need to bring from home next quarter!

Which of these was your favorite look? And what fun/exciting/interesting things did you do or learn this week? I’d love to know! Thanks so much for stopping by today, and I hope you have a great rest of your weekend.

Miles of smiles,

Grace
