Capsule Wardrobe Outfits: Week 1

As promised in my college capsule wardrobe post, I will now be posting an additional blog post on Saturdays, featuring the outfits I wore throughout the week! For those of you who don’t know, I decided to really narrow down my wardrobe and tried to pack as little clothing as possible when I moved back to school a few weeks ago. This past week was my first week back at college (I’m a junior this year studying Criminology and Geography), so it’s time for my first round-up of outfits. By the end of the semester, these weekly recap posts will be a great documentation of all the outfit variations I could create with my capsule wardrobe!

Per usual, lighting is kind of a struggle in my apartment bedroom. Who else feels like a broken record when complaining about lighting?? So while the color and quality of my mirror pictures aren’t the best, I hope y’all can bear with me as I brainstorm better lighting situations. Afterall, at the end of the day, it all boils down to the outfit and style inspo anyway, not so much the amazing photography (or rather, the lack-there-of).

This was my first day of junior year! You can read all about how I’ve worn the same “first day” outfit each year of college and some of my thoughts entering this strange school year in this blog post. I started the morning by going on a nice little run/walk around campus, and then I got ready for my first online class of the day—Intro to GIS (Geographic Information Systems)! I then had an online class called Philosophy of Migration in the afternoon.

I loved how this outfit turned out, and I even tried to match my mask to my look a lil’ bit! This was the first time I wore these new white elastic sandals. I’ve been wanting them for awhile and finally snagged them, and another pair of shoes, during a sandal sale. They rubbed a little bit, but once I break them in I think they’ll be super comfy. Personally, I think all shoes need at least a little breaking in! I had an online class at 8 AM, called Violence in Society, and then I had my first in-person class at 10 AM, called Sustainability and Society.

I was so busy all day that I didn’t get around to filming my OOTD videos for Insta Stories until late afternoon, when the light in my bedroom was already pretty dim. So, I broke out the tripod and tried filming the videos freestyle, instead of in front of my mirror! It was a little cooler this day so I opted for a tank top and jeans. I had an in-person GIS lab in the morning, an online class in the afternoon, and an online meeting later at night. You may remember this top as my “feature piece” in my original college capsule wardrobe post.

This was a super busy day! I had an online and in-person class, followed by a Skype call with a good friend from home, followed by loads of homework (already). This dress was easy and comfy, perfect for my hectic day (and one of my favorite transitional pieces—it’s cute with sandals now but will look just as good with booties and a jacket come fall).

Friday, September 18

I don’t have class on Fridays—which is awesome—so I just threw on this casual look for a socially distanced picnic with friends, homework around the apartment, and a Zoom conference call about reapplying to study abroad. A casual Friday, for sure!

Also, the first pick in today’s post features these olive green shorts as well. You can check out the full blog post here.

General Thoughts So Far on My First Capsule Wardrobe

Before I unpacked all my clothes, I thought, “Dang, I still brought too much! Way more than I needed for a true capsule wardrobe.” But now that I’ve unpacked and can see all my stuff hanging there in the closet?? I feel like I packed no clothes at all! The temps haven’t even dropped yet but I already wish I brought more sweaters…

I don’t really get dressed a whole ton on the weekends (usually just workout gear or loungewear), since the majority of my weekends are spent at home doing homework. So each of these weekly round-up posts will likely only have five outfits! I’m excited to see just how many unique looks I can make throughout the semester… It will be interesting, for sure.

Anyway, thanks for stopping by today’s post! What have you been up to this week? Have you made any fun purchases? Have a great rest of your weekend.

Miles of smiles,

Grace

  1. How lovely to learn more about how your week looks like! And you are going home in the weekends? Or just in the holidays? I’m not a jeans fan, but those look very good on you. Hope to see you on my Fancy Friday link up.

    1. Thanks so much, Nancy! I’m glad you enjoyed it. I go to school quite a ways from home, so I only make it back home for the holidays.
