Three Back to School Outfit Ideas

Today I wanted to share three super simple, easy-to-recreate outfit ideas for heading back to school. I can’t believe so many of my friends are already going back to their campuses for the start of the semester! Since my university is on the quarter system, we don’t go back until the third week of September. But I can’t imagine starting school again in the next week or two—I still have so much to accomplish before the end of the summer! So without further ado, here are three outfits and tips to recreate them to keep you stylish this school year, whether you’ll be learning online or braving the classrooms.

Edgy Loungewear

I know a lot of us will be continuing our online learning pursuits this semester, so I wanted to share a look that would be super comfy to lounge in, without sacrificing style (because you know I’m a strong believer in getting dressed for online classes). I lovvvve soft shorts like this turquoise pair during the summer, and I styled them with a simple black tank and scrunchie for an extremely comfortable college outfit. I added my favorite studded gladiator sandals (recently re-discovered in my closet) for a lil’ bit of an edgy vibe! Shoes are sometimes necessary for, ya know, those moments you have to leave your dorm room to grab the pizza you ordered.

This outfit is really easy to recreate. The main piece you need is a pair of soft shorts, and then you can pair it with any tank top, tee, or crop top in either neutral colors or colors from the pattern of the shorts (for example, I also could’ve paired these shorts with a white, navy, or light blue top). Add a few simple accessories and you’re ready for class!

Girly Black and White

I really love how this outfit turned out, even if the photos don’t quite do it justice. I opted for this cute pair of white jeans (did you notice the silver buttons on the bottom?) and wore it with this adorable checkered peplum blouse. The hem is scalloped, and there’s also a picaboo in the back! This look is easily recreated with a pair of white jeans and your go-to summer tank. Strap on your best sandals and you’re good to go! You can shop some cute summer tanks in the widget below. (By the way, this is by far my favorite outfit of the three.)

Casual Spirited

This is actually the outfit I wore on move-in day sophomore year! You may have noticed the embroidered “Denver” on the bottom of the shirt for my school—I bought the top on sale from my university’s bookstore. I love it paired with a white bralette and denim shorts for a casual summer vibe. However, this top would’ve looked better with high-waisted shorts, and the sparkly espadrilles were definitely not my shoe of choice—I think espadrille sandals like these would’ve been way cuter.

But pairing your favorite school tee with some denim cut-offs and fun sandals is an easy look to get you back in the school spirit. I even think you could easily make your own version of this shirt—just pick a cute tank and add a patch of your school’s logo from your bookstore. And this top would look just as cute with the white jeans from earlier! Or even a white denim skirt. The possibilities are endless.

Red Check Top: University bookstore, $15 // Denim Shorts: JCPenney, $20, last worn here // Sparkly Espadrilles: White Mountain via DSW, $40, last worn here

Which of these back to school outfits is your style? And will you be heading back to real classes or staying home to do online school? As of now, all of my classes have some in-person component, with only a few classes online each week. I’m mostly just excited to go back so that I can decorate my apartment!

Also—I tried taking photos on our real DSLR camera again (the pics of the black and white outfit). Isn’t the difference in quality compared to the other pics just astounding? The rest of today’s photos, and usually all of my blog photos, are taken on my Google Pixel phone, and the resolution is just 100 times better than the DSLR. But then again, I know nothing about photography, so the poorer quality of the DSLR shots are probably just a user error.

Thanks for stopping by today, and I hope you are having a great start to your week!

Miles of smiles,

Grace

  1. Hey I have a GOOGLE PIXEL too. Love mine!

Love these back to school looks. Bet you are the best-dressed student at your college, I mean that. Your favorite outfit is also my favorite outfit. That geo-print peplum top is just THE CUTEST! I also love your plaid top and those fluid/soft shorts. I am also wearing fluid/soft shorts in my Insta post today: check it out! (

    1. Thanks so much, Ada! Isn’t the Google Pixel so nice?? I love mine! Hope you’re having a great day, and thanks for stopping by.

    1. Thanks so much, Emily! Those shorts would also look cute with a black version of that one-shoulder mauve top you have. That shirt is so cute!

  2. I love all of the outfits, Grace especially the girly black and white look. Here in Ireland everyone is slowly preparing to go back to school yet no one really knows how it’s gonna be. It’s been a one crazy year for sure. Thanks for sharing and have a good day 😀 Aiva

  3. All three outfits are beautiful in their own right. I can see myself wearing each even if I am way beyond back to school age! I love the black and white peplum top as it is quite a stunner. I also take both photos with my phone camera and DSLR. It’s really a hit or a miss on both ends for me. Sometimes they both turn out great which is a true jackpot. I do have to admit I love taking pictures on my phone as it is the easiest. Easy to click, easy to transfer, easy to edit, etc. you know? Anyway, I hope your week is going well and happy hump day!
