Farm Belle

Recently, I spent some time doing work on my grandpa’s farm—riding an awesome lawn mowing machine, shoveling up thistles, etc. So it was only natural that I came up with a farm-appropriate outfit to match the occasion. Don’t ya think? While I would characterize my style as very eclectic, including edgy, feminine, and boho outfits, the western/farm style is one look I had yet to explore. How do you think I did?

One of my new favorite fashion bloggers, McKenzie at Styled by McKenz, has been rocking all sorts of western-inspired outfits lately. I decided to give it a try and embrace my inner cowgirl, but I don’t think my outfit turned out nearly as cute as hers! I look more like the grungy farm girl who just came out of the barn, whereas she’s the cool cowgirl who rides horses majestically through the fields. Can’t you picture it? Throwbacks to that one Hannah Montana movie where she goes back to her farm?

Anyway, I started my outfit by picking this button-down floral shirt, which has those little pearly snaps that are essential to a cowboy’s wardrobe. I paired the top with some peachy shorts, though in hindsight I think denim cut-offs would have been more fitting (as long as, of course, the denim shorts were a different wash/shade than the denim top). And then came the accessories, which is where the outfit all went wrong. I don’t own cowgirl boots or a cowgirl hat, so I picked these brown booties and panama hat instead. I look like a half-ass Walmart version of a cowgirl, but hey, here we are. I almost didn’t share these photos because the outfit seems kind of ridiculous, but then I had a change of heart and thought the pics were cute!

If you’ve been following me from the beginning, you may remember that my first blog post was taken on a farm back in Iowa. So to capture more farm photos at Golden Hour for my four year blogging anniversary seemed only fitting! I’ve even worn this shorts-shirt combo before on the blog, but obviously the wannabe cowgirl accessories completely switches up the look. When I walked into the gas station on the drive to the farm, I definitely felt like a fraud in this outfit!

Even though I basically just stay home all the time due to the pandemic, I am still extremely busy. How is that possible?? Of course there’s always blog stuff to do, and I’ve been dedicating a lot more time to Graceful Rags lately. But then I also have my job as a Criminology research assistant, which quickly adds up to a lot of hours. And now, starting yesterday, I am also a virtual camp counselor for summer camp. For years, I attended Camp Rainbow Gold, which is an incredible camp for kids with cancer and their families (my eldest brother had cancer as a child, but he’s happy and healthy now!). I am so grateful to be able to return as a volunteer and bring the camp magic to new families, but online camp has already proven a much larger time commitment than anticipated! So here’s to a very busy, fully-booked week ahead and lots of fun shenanigans. What have you been doing to stay busy lately?

Thanks so much for stopping by today! This post is way shorter than my usual rambling writings, but my eyelids are literally closing as I type this. I’m so sleepy after a long day! Do you like how my country chic outfit turned out? I showed my grandpa one of these photos, and he said, “Well that’s a farm belle if I ever saw one!” Let me know if you wear western style clothing in the comments below. While I don’t think I could be a farmer (mostly because I lack any and all upper body strength), I really respect the lifestyle and find it extremely peaceful. As tough as it is, there’s just something so satisfying about manual labor!

Have a great day and start to your week.

Miles of smiles,

Grace

    1. Thanks so much, Kathrine! I wasn’t sure about the look, but I’m glad you approve. 🙂

  1. Hi, Grace! These are my all time favourite photos of you; you look absolutely radiant and I love your outdoorsy look! Thanks for sharing and have a good day 😀 Aiva

    1. Thank you so much Aiva, that is so sweet of you! I hope you and your family are having a great day too. 🙂

  2. I think you look really cute in this outfit and made it work: I didn’t notice that neither the hat nor the booties were not western until you pointed it out. I do have a pair of real cowboy boots that I really like but I need to create some outfits with them. Maybe this early fall when it is cool enought to wear them! It could be a week long project: 5 ways to wear cowboy boots in the city!

    1. Thanks so much Mica! And yes, online camp is very different so far, but it seems the kids are enjoying it, so that’s good. 🙂 Hope you’re having a great day!

  4. I love Western inspired outfits! My inner cowgirl is a force who needs to come out frequently! Ha. I think these photos are totally adorable as well. I am glad that you decided to share them. I really like this farm belle outfit! The pink shorts and tiny floral print keep it super feminine and the hat and booties are the perfect farmy touches! Thanks for linking up!
