4th of July Outfit Inspiration

4th of july, patriotic outfit, red white and blue

Happy Monday, friends! I just finished the most amazing week spent at my grandparents’ cabin, which included lots of hiking, game playing, movie watching, and of course, social distancing. If you’ve missed me on Instagram and Pinterest, that’s why I’ve been absent! Gotta love that mountain internet connection (i.e. nonexistent). No, really, it was amazing to not stress about posting regularly to social media. But today I’m finally back to civilization, and I wanted to round up some of my favorite 4th of July outfits from over the years, as the holiday is quickly approaching. I initially had planned a cute and casual look for this post, but I got so caught up in the relaxation of being in the mountains that I never ended up taking any blog photos! So here we are. I hope you enjoy!

While the 4th of July may look a little different this year, one holiday tradition we can still rely on is wearing a fun, festive outfit. I always struggle to come up with a new look each year, as my collection of red, white, and blue items never seems to expand (you’ll notice the same red shirt in three of these four outfits). Yet, I’m always up to the challenge of discovering a new combo!

This first look is from last year’s blog post, Red, White, and Blue. I think a lighter-wash denim is always a great way to incorporate blue into your Independence Day outfit, even though the American flag is a navy shade. Jean shorts just seem so summery and fresh! Although, my pair is definitely too short (not sure what compelled me to buy these). I topped the look off with a cute blue bandanna, reminiscent of Rosie the Riveter, and some fun patriotic sunglasses that my mom got as a freebie with a purchase. This outfit would be just as cute with a pair of sneakers or with a plain white tee instead.

Back at it again with this red blouse and blue bandanna! This outfit was featured in the post My Favorite Parts of Independence Day last summer. Since I spent 2019’s 4th of July in Spain walking the Camino de Santiago, I took the opportunity to use a blog post to vicariously celebrate the holiday. I’m bummed that I’ll (most likely) miss another 4th of July this year due to COVID-related cancellations, though I’m still determined to make the most of the day. My favorite part of this outfit are the blue striped shoes! And of course, it seems that every 4th of July look requires a bold red lipstick.

This outfit is really throwing it back—back to the days where I couldn’t fake-smile for photos and hadn’t started whitening my teeth yet. And I guess you could say I rocked the tiny sunglasses trend before it was even popular! To see this original blog post, click here.

This star print t-shirt is one of those quintessential holiday shirts. While I now think the red flower in my hair is too try-hard (and that a different pair of shoes is necessary), I still love the tee, white jeans, and red purse combo. Two years ago, I wore this tee with the white skirt of the previous outfit, and I think it would look just as cute paired with a white denim skirt or shorts. Do you have one of those holiday shirts, the type you only wear once a year? When I was little, my certified 4th of July tee was red with a big blue and silver sequin star in the middle.

My photo skills have come a long way since this 4th of July blog post back in June of 2017. Even though these pics aren’t the best, I still love this girly and dressier Independence Day outfit. The bright red paired with navy and white polka dots is so cute! And I would wear these pieces together again in a heartbeat.

So do you have an outfit prepared for the 4th of July already? And what plans, if any, do you have for the holiday? I linked some cute red, white, and blue items to shop in the widget below. I intentionally chose mostly generic items (as opposed to star printed, flag-inspired garments) so that you’ll be able to wear the pieces all summer long.

Anyway, I hope you are having a great start to your week! I’m excited to hit the ground running after last week’s break and to get back to commenting on other fashionistas’ blogs; I’ve really been enjoying doing that lately. As always, thanks for stopping by, and have a fantastic Monday.

Miles of smiles,

Grace
