All I Want for Christmas is Hue

Hey ladies! This post is coming to ya a *little* late haha, but alas, it is still being published on Wednesday. 🙂 Also, don’t you like how those baby hairs are awkwardly blowing in my face in the above photo?

Today I wanted to talk all about color. Yes, I know that I’ve talked about interesting color combos and fall color cravings before, but now I want to talk about color in the winter—and why you need to be wearing it. I don’t know about you, but when the days grow cold and dreary, I find myself reaching for black and grey every day. But why?? Just because it’s grey outside doesn’t mean we have to look (and feel) the same way. So I’ve been challenging myself to wear brighter colors lately, and I’ve been loving it for three reasons…

  1. It brightens my mood! How can a bright scarlet dress not make you smile a little when it’s freezing out and all you want to do is curl up on the couch…
  2. It gives me a challenge. It takes some effort to not reach for all the dark colors in my closet. I love trying to shake things up and getting those creative juices flowing for new outfit creations.
  3. It stands out! I love not following the crowd, so being a bright orange ray of sunshine in a sea of grey makes the winter that much more exciting. 🙂

So how can YOU rock some color these next few months? I chose to wear this summery dress. By pairing it with brown tones, tights, and a warm sweater, the combination dialed the dress down and made it winter-appropriate. I wore this outfit to school and was surprised by how many compliments I got! I haven’t worn this sweater in years. It belonged to my mother, and she wore it in the 80s (yes—those are real shoulder pads!).

Some other ways to incorporate more color are with fun sweaters. Who doesn’t love a good cozy sweater?! There’s such a huge variety out there and I love sweaters with stripes, other patterns, or pastels. You can pair them with your favorite skinny jeans and brightly colored flats, or you can dress them up with an A-line skirt and metallic heels. The possibilities are endless!

Of course, you can always rock some bold pants like I do. AND if all else fails, reach for the accessories! A clutch, infinity scarf, gloves, headband, or killer shoes can all bring a little something extra into your winter outfit. My favorite way are scarfs—they’re so pretty AND functional, which I’m all about. Or you can even try out some lipstick, like I did!

Feeling so sassy in this last pic! I hope y’all are having a great week so far and that you have all of your holiday shopping done—I sure don’t! I have one last final tomorrow and then I’m out of school for Christmas break. Are any of you currently taking finals? I’m so excited to just relax and spend some much needed time on the blog.

Miles of smiles,

Grace
