Winter Wonderland Without Worry

Good morning! I’m so sorry for being gone all of last week—I had to take an unexpected hiatus because school was just crazy. I still have finals this week, but I think I should be back to posting regularly. I tried to rearrange some posts so you could still see all the fun content I had planned from last week—hopefully it works out. 🙂

Today’s post is all about what to wear in the freezing cold—you know, when you’re out exploring the Christmas lights or ice skating in your favorite park (did you see my winter bucket list?). Obviously, you want to look cute, especially if it’s a special winter date night, but warmth comes first. I’m here to tell you that you can have both style AND comfort this winter. The trick? Lots and lots of layers.

For the most part, I have found that no one fashionable article of clothing (like a coat or sweater) will be that warm by itself. They’re made primarily for looking stylish, and I get that. So the key is layering a bunch of chic items on top of each other to stay warm (duh).

For example, start with a tank top/t-shirt, a pair of tights or thin leggings, and some knee socks. This first layer will be hidden beneath everything, so you don’t have to worry about it matching.

Then you can add some cuteness! I chose a chunky cable-knit sweater and jeans. Sweaters are probably your best bet because they generally have room to layer a shirt underneath, plus they’re all cozy and soft. 🙂

Next I put on my red quilted vest from Francesca’s and this crème infinity scarf. I used to thinks vest were really dumb because, you know, they don’t have sleeves. But I have since learned that they actually do keep you pretty warm (after all, if your core is warm, your whole body will be!). I love the pops of red throughout this look—so festive—and they brightened up my otherwise neutral ensemble.

I finished the look with red gloves, a red headband, black boots, and a black pleather jacket. I was super cozy/warm when taking these photos even though it was pretty chilly out! Wearing a jacket over a vest can get a little chunky, but it’s either that or being freezing the whole time sooooo…Obviously you know which one I would choose. Tall boots are also a good choice because they add an extra layer of thickness between your legs and the wind. Just remember to get all the extremities covered: wear gloves, scarves, hats, and good socks!

So what do you think? Would you brave the snow and cold in an outfit like this?? I’d love to know in the comments, or what you would wear outside instead. See you Wednesday!

Miles of smiles,

Grace
