Sporty Spice and Everything Nice

I just want to take a moment to say that I hope everyone is safe after the events on Sunday night. It’s such a horrific situation, and I know a lot of people in Vegas so it’s very scary. <3 Let’s all do something really kind today—the world needs a little more of that. And now as a distraction from all that bad stuff…let’s get on to today’s post.

Have you heard that your favorite athletic jacket is now an it-girl statement piece?? I know! Crazy. But that’s right, you can restyle your sports hoodie from the gym to date night (just please make sure to wash it in between). 😉 And I’m going to share a few tips for how to do just that! Read on if you dare…Mwa ha ha hahaha!! (Side note: Halloween is creeping on up here!)

“Sport” (see what I did there??) those girly shoes. I kind of hate taking close-ups of shoes because feet are weird and ugly, but I felt it was necessary in this post so you could see my cute sandals. A great way to transition your sports jacket to a cute, wearable outfit is through girly shoes, such as beaded sandals or heeled booties (black ones or those super trendy white ones would look good with this coat).

Rock some jewelry. Be strategic in the jewelry you wear—a choker, stud bracelet, bar necklace, or long pendant necklaces would all work well to add some edge and keep your jacket from looking like the gym. Also, don’t be afraid to stack on the rings or earrings!

Pair with something ultra-feminine. I paired my jacket with this feminine floral shirt, which juxtaposes the two styles of girly girl and athleisure. Other possible fabrics/styles that would work include lace, sparkles, polka dots, or any sort of embellishment.

Avoid sneakers and t-shirts and ponytails. Of course, there are always exceptions…For example, I thought it would be cute to wear these jeans and jacket, this white t-shirt, a statement necklace, and my new favorite blush sneakers. That basically does all the things I just said NOT to do! So here’s the thing: while you definitely can wear sneakers/ponytails/t-shirts/anything else that seems athletic, it’s just harder to pull off in a way that is still stylish. If you’re new to trying this more street style kind of look, then I’d recommend playing it safe with the other tips above.

What did you think of this post?? I don’t think my dad liked this outfit…We went to take photos last night, and he asked, “Is that jacket part of the outfit…?” In my head I thought, “This jacket IS the outfit!” Haha anyways, have you rocked the athletic jacket trend yet? I’d love to hear about it!
