Dressing for Spring When It’s Still Cold Outside

Hey ladies! Sorry I missed a post on Friday…I was crazy busy all last week with standardized tests and preparing for my high school’s art show, which was on Saturday. But I’m back this week with new content! Today I thought I’d share some tips for what to wear when you want to dress for spring but it’s still too cold. I’ve been seeing tons of summery outfits all over blogs and social media lately, but it’s just not warm enough for me to wear a sleeveless dress or a tank and shorts yet. So instead, here are some things that you can wear if you’re in the same situation as me. 🙂

Do wear color. This is probably the easiest step to follow because you can find colorful pieces in every season—not just bright tanks and fun patterned shorts. Pastels are great to wear and so are neons, but like me with my pink sweater, choose items that are better suited for chilly weather, such as sweaters, coats, pants, etc. Also, this outfit probably would’ve been a lot springier if I had worn jeans instead of black pants. However, jeans are against my school’s dress code, and that’s where I wore this look.

Do wear florals. “Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking.” As that quote suggests, florals are a classic spring piece, so adding them to your outfit can instantly up the spring factor. A floral sweater or sweatshirt would be great, or you could just add flower hair pins, like me. And by the way, I always thought it was silly how bloggers would buy flowers just for photoshoots. But I actually just happened to be coming home after picking up these lilies, so I decided to take some photos with them. Maybe that’s what happens with other fashion bloggers?

Do wear flats or sandals. Instead of booties, which add a fall/winter vibe, rock some fun flats. You could even wear sandals if you’re okay with your feet being a little chilly.

Do wear a light scarf. If it’s so cold that you want to wear a scarf, opt for a lightweight, chiffon scarf then tie it cutely around your neck. You’ll look super stylish since the “ascot look” is so trendy right now, but you’ll also keep your neck warmer without the bulkiness of a knit scarf.

Do wear a denim jacket. Denim screams spring, especially white jean jackets. So layer one over a brightly colored long-sleeved blouse to keep warm. See this outfit for an example.

Do wear springy prints. Certain prints are just more summery than others, so make sure to take advantage. I already mentioned florals, but patterns like gingham and polka dots are also really popular this time of year. You could rock a JCrew inspired look with a pink gingham long-sleeved button-down and white jeans. A warm outfit, but also really appropriate for the season.

I hope these tips were helpful and that you’re having a great Monday! Thanks so much for stopping by. 🙂

Oh! I almost forgot to mention that this Wednesday, the 26th, is Denim Day. This is a declared day to wear jeans in support of survivors of sexual assault, since April is Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Awareness Month. You can read more about this day and how it came to be here. If you are able depending on school and work dress codes, wearing jeans on Wednesday is an easy way to raise awareness and support. Or you could wear teal/turquoise, as this is the color of the ribbons associated with this cause. Thank you so much for the support.

Miles of smiles,

Grace
