7 Ways to Wear a Dress

Happy Wednesday! I don’t know about you guys, but this week is going by so slow…Today I am sharing my first “round-up” post. I personally love posts like these because they help you get the most bang for your buck and give you new ideas for wearing pieces you already have in your closet. I hope to do a lot more “round-up” posts in the future, but I’m still working on having enough outfit posts to choose from in order to do this sort of thing. So without further ado, seven ways to wear a dress (specifically, a navy dress).

Layer a sweater over it. I was only recently introduced to the idea of layering a sweater over a dress so that it looks like a skirt—this idea was completely foreign to me, but it’s genius! I don’t have a ton of skirts in my closet, so this method opens up lots of new options. Layering a sweater works best with dresses that are fitted up top with short or no sleeves. It’s a great way to transition your favorite dress to the colder months!

Wear a sweater with a fun pattern and similar shades to the dress, then layer it up with tall boots, fun socks, and some statement jewelry.

Or try using a sweater in the same color as the dress for a monochromatic look, then add a pop of color, like red shoes.

Wear a cardigan over it. A cardigan is a great and easy way to add a light layer to your outfit and a bit of a “professional” feel. I noticed that both of the cardigans I used are printed!

Try a light-colored cardigan and bright accessories to make your dress fun and appropriate for spring and summer.

Or wear a dark-colored cardigan with sparkly accessories and classic black shoes for a more winter and work appropriate look.

If you liked it then you shoulda put a shirt on. Like the sweater trick, a shirt over a dress was just *mind blown*. This thin and neon collared blouse made the perfect summer addition to this dress with the cute knotted detail and cuffed sleeves. You could also wear a t-shirt with a knot or go with a cropped blouse. This works best with fit-and-flare dresses.

When in doubt, just wear the dress. Rock the dress just the way it is! But for even more options for how to wear it, mix up your accessories, and don’t forget to change your hairstyle too (like I did).

Use bright accessories, fun jewelry, and statement shoes to add a summery and vacation vibe to your outfit.

Or dress up your dress with sparkly jewelry, heels, and a polished belt.

I realize not all of these ideas can be applied to winter fashion, but with spring right around the corner, I thought this might convince you to try an old dress first before buying a new one. I probably won’t get a post up for Friday, just so you know, but thanks for stopping by today!

Miles of smiles,

Grace

  1. I like the “If you liked it then you should’ve put a shirt on it” song reference! 😂👌 As well as the rest of the post😉

  2. I love all the ways you styled this dress, especially the outfit with the yellow clutch, it adds a great pop of color! <3
