Happy 2017! I hope you all had a wonderful and safe NYE. It’s hard to believe 2016 is already over!

I have a few New Year’s resolutions for the blog, but the biggest is adding “lessons” for outfits. Let me explain. I realized that sometimes people who follow fashion blogs are already fashionable themselves, they’re just looking for more inspiration or pretty outfit pictures. (That’s me.) But there are also people who have no idea how to be fashionable. A lot of blogs assume you’re reading with some sort of background in fashion, so the bloggers don’t explain why their outfits look good/why something works. A lot of my friends tell me, “I’m so not stylish,” or things like that (even though they are!!). So I not only want to provide inspiration for those who are already fashionably inclined but also to those who need a little help in putting outfits together. Does that make sense?

This is going to be a challenge for me. I’ve always had an eye for what clothes go together and what not, but I’ve never had to articulate that before. This will definitely be a learning process for both of us, but hopefully you find it helpful!

Without further ado, onto this outfit…

I wore this outfit to school (minus the hat) on a chilly, snowy day. I could also imagine wearing this to a ski lodge or something like that, if I added a big puffy coat on top. The plaid flannel doesn’t have any black in it, but I wanted to wear black pants with it. Usually when I “introduce” a new color into an outfit, I try and put it or a similar color in multiple places of the outfit so that it doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb. You’re going for cohesiveness. That’s why I added the black vest (and for warmth!) and the beanie with black stripes—instead of black being just in the pants, it’s sprinkled throughout the outfit. I used a cream scarf to match the white in the flannel, but a blue or red scarf would have worked as well.

Let me know what you think about this new idea! I’d love to hear your feedback. Also, photographs were taken by moi with the tripod again.

Miles of smiles,

Grace
